I was working on my truck today and thinking about how long it's been since I've really added any mods to a vehicle. It brought me back to the old days of HondaSwap and I randomly remembered Woot!. I realized I haven't thought about it in at least 5 years.

The last Woot thread title on here was in 2013: https://hondaswap.com/search/8326523/?q=woot&o=date&c[title_only]=1

Anyway, I started doing some reading and found an interesting history.

2004: Founded in Texas by a computer parts liquidator

2010: Amazon bought Woot! for $110 million.Woot! still exists as an Amazon company.
https://www.woot.com/

2013: Founders quit Amazon. Some went on to start Mediocre Laboratories.
https://mediocre.com/

2014: The founder's new project is a site called "Meh". Basically a shitty version of Woot....EXACTLY what a jaded tech millionaire would build when they've officially said "fuck it" and have the resources to do whatever the hell they want.

https://meh.com/

Two great interviews with the founder:
2014: https://www.dmagazine.com/publicati...has-a-new-deal-mediocre-corporation/?single=1

2015: http://www.ecommercefuel.com/woot/

Anyway, I just thought I would share a random memory and my internet findings.

Interesting, never heard of that site
I still check woot just about daily, but haven't seen anything really good on there in quite some time

Use to kill it on BOCs

It's interesting how their site would crash the servers on the bundle of carrots. I wonder how much cheaper servers are now compared to back then. I bet it was at least 10x the cost back then.

i can tell you in my experience it's certainly less for more today. Except if you're loading up with RAM, RAM for servers is crazy expensive right now.

We have this thing called AWS and autoscaling now.

Woot turned to chit when it started selling everything. Let’s not forget that Trump hater who always gets face time too. Which makes sense since woot is owned by the same guy who owns the Washington compost.

Meh is where it’s at.

Interesting...

I had not heard of Meh. But then again, I rarely buy random shit on the internet anymore...
