I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to solve a frustrating problem with my 2012 Honda Civic where the engine appears to buck/jerk while driving. The problem is very intermittent and therefore my Honda dealer was not able to duplicate the trouble during a test drive. Their full diagnostic tests did not reveal anything.

The problem has been going on since late 2017, sometimes disappearing for a month or so and then reappearing again. I can’t understand if this was a problem with the fuel injectors or timing belt why would it be so intermittent? What else could cause bucking & jerking of the engine? I did have the plugs replaced just to make certain they were not the cause. Running up the engine while stopped does not show any signs of missing.

Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

lol the honda dealership couldnt diagnose my car with trained technicians , please diagnose my car over the internet with a vague thread on my very first post with no actual knowledge of the vehicle or miles or conditions or the package of the car etc.... Welcome To HondaSwap

are you sure it's the engine? does it sputter or want to die out?

does it only happen when you fill up at 'x' gas station? take notes.
try 89 instead of 87. take notes
could be a clogged fuel filter or cat convertor going bad.

could it be the transmission doing weird stuff?
could it be suspension acting crazily to a bump?

Tks for your reply and suggestions. Yes, I agree it could be the transmission because it only happens when the car is moving.

Have another with Honda dealer next week, will see what happens.

What mph is it when this happens? If it's at low mph and 1st gear....my kswap bucks a lot at those low mph situations (like a parking lot). If I step on the gas, it goes away....but then I'm ripping it up in a parking lot so I clutch it some and get back in it as necessary.

Happens at constant highway speeds and not accelerating. It can occur If you slowly back off the gas.

Thanks for reply

They can be a royal pain to diagnose if they're not totally dead. Do you hear any low pops coming out of the exhaust (unburned fuel)?

Trans mounts..
Also maybe try telling the dealer these things and use process of elimination to narrow it down
