Hey everyone - long time no post! Life has been interesting the last few years. Long story short got divorced. Getting married in November. Was the lead on building a Fab Lab and Innovation Center in my district and now I am running that along with teaching classes. Life is good.

If you want to see what our kiddos are up to take a look here in the archives sections.

This project especially highlights what our kids can do with a little freedom, creativity and encouragement: https://elizabethsidea.weebly.com/ukulele.html

I am wondering if you all could help my Engineering Design and Development students with their initial research survey on the following topics.

Welcome back.
Did both the surveys. Interested in the details on divorce, and getting remarried. You can't just gloss over that type of stuff.

Welcome back.

After 9 years of marriage my ex decided that she wasn't happy with our marriage and not interested in trying to work on it. It crushed me as I was not expecting it but lead to the most awesome realization personally. I also wasn't happy. I hit the gym and lost 30 pounds in 4 months. I was working on the Innovation Center project and that helped. I went and bought a new vehicle after the divorce (Silverado Blackout) which was something I always wanted but the ex wouldn't sign off on. My friends and family were amazing through the whole process. The actual divorce process went pretty smooth. She hired a lawyer, I didn't and it worked out ok. Got the notice of filing on Christmas eve and the final divorce settlement offer on my birthday in Feb. Pretty sure that was not coincidence and intentional by her. The only downside was that I had to do all this in a county an hour away. In the end I paid no legal fees, I kept the house, kept her jewelry I had bought and had to pay roughly 40K (including our joint savings) to her to be done. I was broke for a bit but I was happy with that settlement as the house value has gone up enough to cover that loss and will continue to rise. Final court date was in April 2017. Hadn't heard a peep from the ex until last week when she called to say her dad has passed. I had cut all ties with any family and her friends. Around the time the divorce was final I met Abigail and it has been amazing ever since. She moved in about 18 months ago and I proposed last December. We both agreed that we wouldn't have worked if we had met under any other circumstances and really do enjoy and compliment each other. Probs not all the details you are looking for so ask away on anything else. The plan is to get through the wedding and start to take care of some small details in order to put the house on the market in the spring. Abigail has done an amazing job taking my house (owned with the ex) and turning it into our home but I want to start somewhere new with a house that is ours not one she moved into to be with me. Probably still not the full story but feel free to ask any questions.

That about sums it up. Was mostly curious what type of hit you took to get the ex out the door, as I assume you have a teacher's pension and all that.
Most teachers in NY end up choosing between their house and their pension when they get divorced.

Congrats on being done with the ex and moving forward with your life. Did you ever figure out if she had someone else on the side. They tend not to make that leap until they have another vine to latch on to.

I never cared enough to ask about someone else. Funny enough I ran into her with my current tailgating this last weekend. She apologized for being "a shitty human being" and wished us happiness in the future. As for the pension we were both teachers I kept mine - she kept her's. I didn't have to pay any of her student loans for her masters in return for looking past future income that she would make as it was going to be a pretty decent change in salary. Like I said considering the outcome I came out ahead.
