VTECH
i am looking at a used del sol with the vtech engine. it is said to have a blown head gasket from over heating.
i am curious what you folks think may be colateral damage to the engine. i am not familiar with this engine so i am asking. i know some vehicles once they blow a head gasket, they suffer major problems like ripping the bolts out of the block, and things like this. how does this vtech hold up to this type of damage?
i am expecting
  • head gasket
  • water pump
or whateevr else caused the over heating.
any pointers in the common over heating problem would be helpful as well.

Is it a Del Sol Si or a Del Sol VTEC?

Might have a warped head, warped block, damaged O2 sensor, blown water pump, hoses that need to be replaced, and things like that. You don't really know what VTEC is, do you?
it is a del sol vtech.
nope... no idea what a vtecH consists of :D

better question where are your spark plugs located, top center of the valve cover or top front of the valve cover.

for 1k....its worth it anyway...you can swap in a z6 uber cheap and have the car running again...

A V-Tech consists of the same electronics that every other cordless phone has.

VTEC, however, is something completely different. You might want to actually learn what it is before you start talking shit to the knowledgable people around here.
with or without an H, we are in an automobile forum, not a cordless telephone forum. if you are having such a difficulty depicting which of the two we are discussing, perhaps you should remove the label you give yourself as "knowledgable" ;)
a bit less asshatedness, and a bit more helpfulness would make you a nicer person.

so... why dont you break it down for me. what is vtec/vtecH all about?:D

check the other head gasket post and youll find my response to your hurt feelings over blanco correcting you. i dont like to be blunt, but damnit, i made the mistake my first couple of posts, i was corrected and now im an h22 professor.

hs.com is like a school. either you want to learn and you use the information we provide or you make paper airplanes and are a waste to our database. the decision is yours.

if youd like help, replacing a honda head gasket is just like any other. remove the bolts (per manual instruction), remove head, replace gasket, replace and line up head, re-torque bolts (per manual specs). look at that, your head gasket has been changed.

first, my feelings are not hurt. it was just an exchange of banter. no big deal.
i certainly appreciate the information the site has on these vehicles, and am more than happy to participate with whatever i can offer to the forum.

as for the head gasket...
my question came about after having dealt with a northstar engine having a head gasket problem. it seems that when those things let go, they tend to rip the bolts right out of the block resulting in a major job to repair. this is a common occurance with those engines.

simularly, i was asking if there are any such routinely experienced catastrophic failures with this particular engine. the del sol 1995 VTECh engine.
this question has not been directly answered, but i am getting the impression from your responses that this sort of thing is a non issue for these vehicles (generally speaking).

thank you for your on topic, well thought out, and generally educated responces.

it havent heard of it, so i would say its not too big of an issue.

when you pull the head, just make sure you unbolt the head in the right order (per helms or service manual) and you shouldnt have a problem with broken bolts. our heads are pretty tiny compared to the northstar, and sheering bolts due to a warped head does seem to be a non-issue.
