Sorry, noob question, but when you swap a motor that isnt meant to be in a certain car (say an H22 or b18 into a eg civic), how do you get through the smog testing? I am wondering the same thing about turbos in Hondas. If you have any Colorado specific info, that would be even more helpful, however, i dont care if motor swaps cause cancer in California, lol.

emissions testing in most places is easy to make it through. if your car is tuned to an afr that is close to 14.7:1 and you have a working cat, youll pass most emission tests. in states like california, you cant just THROW an engine in and go, its a little bit more thought out.

in cali, you have to have an engine from the same make and model of the same year or newer. so if you have a 95 civic, you can throw a k20/b16 with no worries (as long as its 100% stock or has carb legal parts, and it has all of the required emissions components). Unfortunately you cant use a b18 of any type because it came from an acura integra.

I dont know if colorado works the same way, but thats the way i look at it.

having it tuned to around 14.7:1 and the cat are the most important parts. (no one said you couldnt burn a chip for the test and a chip for Daily Driving :))

in Colorado, you can swap engines at will - the requirements to pass the emissions test will be based on the year of the engine and not the year of the car - for instance if you swap a D16Y8 engine from a 97 Civic into a 89 CRX, it would have to pass as if it were a 97 model car - that said, most of the people doing the tests don't know what engines came in which years and they just test it for the year of the car - in the Denver area, that uses Envirotest (or whatever they are calling it) they may know a little more about which engine is which, but here in Colorado Springs, they just test it - Colorado Springs will not have any emissions testing after Dec 31, 2006 - here is page from the state law regarding this:

so im droping a b18a1 into my hatch 89 there isnt ne way i can get it legal?
also does ne one have info on tha swap?

word yo.. i got a BAR JDM b16.. and i've heard its hard to BAR those..
Not hard to BAR them, just a little harder to find the parts, as you have to use a p30 to satisfy the referee, and those are just harder and more expensive ecus to find if you want to stay obd1, as they only came in 95 del sol vtecs, i believe. Did they make 94 del sol vtecs? Gsr swaps are easier, because gsrs are in no way rare. LS's, it's just a joke how easy it is to swap an LS, legally.

Thanks for all the info on N/A, that raelly cleared some things up, i think. Any info on Colorado Turbos, that are tuned perfect?

still not sure what you mean, tuning requires a wideband and a dyno to get the most power outa your ride...thats about it.
