Alright, so as you guys have seen in the other thread i started, i'm in the market to do something about my transportation situation. I own a 96 civic with 118k, its low and slow lol. Its not a bad daily, but there are some things wrong with it... drivers window wont go down at all, needs new shoes in rear, will need timing belt/waterpump soon, brake lines are showing age, and the front bumper is scratched/chipped/marked all to hell, shocks could use replacement. Some of these things will get addressed regardless of what i do in 6 months (window, brakes, lines, T belt..well maybe)
Well, im starting a part time job from home for this company a friend of mine works for in Falls River, MA. Come January, I'll be moved into an office position and work full time in Falls River, so i'm going to move. Ill be moving in with said friend in Quincy, MA, the commute to/from work is 40 (80 round trip each day, 5 days a week). I was really dead set on getting a newer-used car like an 03 g35 or something like that, but now after looking at whta ill earn vs expenses, getting something so soon wont allow me to save any money and will basicly put all my money into just owning this car, oh and itd be a 5 year loan so if i were to lose my job, quit, something... id still be stuck with this payment, also consider prices of insurance because you need full coverage on cars you are getting financed. So my ideas are...
A) Finance a 2000 Insight with little down, fully buy a bike (no loan), keep civic as is.
B) Take a small loan out for 2 years to spruce up the civic (might as well make it a little fun since im keeping it), fully buy a bike. ^_^
C) Small loan for civic, finance 2000 Insight, wait 2/3 years and get a bike.
D) Other.
I wouldnt mind driving my car for another 2 years off and on, but honestly... this d16 has to go, and i dont want to turbo it, id rather buy a b18c1, toss it in and call it a day. i feel the car may be too low (sportlines.. 2 inches all around, sagged to 2.25 probably) and since the shocks need to be replaced id get some new springs as well (mine are about 4 years old). on top of that, my gsr wheels are shitty, the coating is coming off, they just look like total shit, plus id rather have some 99 SI wheels. That gives you an idea of what im lookin to do...
I reallllllllly want a bike, plus the kid im movin in with is getting on in October, my old roommate who lives in providence. who id be seeing a lot of owns one too. I have ridden a cbr 600rr a couple times around a few blocks, just not out on the open road, but i know what im getting myself into.
As far as the insight is concerned, you cant beat that mpg, and with a 400 mile weekly trip, the amount spent on gas is so appealing. 60mpg vs 30mpg, id literally be able to cut my gas bill in 1/2. The more i think about it though, id only save 800-900 by using the insight vs a b18c civic, i dont feel id REALLY get my moneys worth out of the insight to be able to say that the savings will outweigh the cost of the thing... maybe in 9 years lol.
Im just looking for other peoples opinions about this, what you would do, advice, experiences, whatever.... something to help me make the "best" decision. Or just let me know if what im talking about is way off mark and retarded
wow that was long...
Cliffnotes:
Graduating in Dec, moving to quincy, MA
Would like a new car, but wouldnt allow me to save any money or spend on nice things.
Debating between swapping the civic and buying bike, or insight and bike.
Looking for ideas/advice/"what would you do's"
