Will your speedometer be off after you do a swap? I took out the d15b and put in the b16sir2 into my 92 cx and now it seems like it reads like 10mph too high driving down the highway. I was driving the civic, and my wife was driving the T-Bird and she was showing 55 where as the civic showed 65.

it's quite possible. but this should be an easy fix, should be a little gear where the speedo cable mounts to the transmission, you'll need to change it.

Ok so first of all do I even have a speedometer cable or is it just the VSS, I saw a website that was saying to replace just the VSS drive link. Does this sound right?

Nobody...? not even CRX-YEM? I talked to another guy and he said that maybe because it came out of a car from japan and that it was geared different that maybe it was throwing off the speedometer. I know a lot of people on here have done this swap...have any of you had this problem because if you havent, than that must mean there is somethig wrong with only mine.

Ok so I pulled the VSS off my old engine (92 civic cx d15b8). Its about 6 or 7 inches long with the plug on one end and a shaft that has a yellow plastic gear on the other end. Will this work? I havent had a chance yet to compare it with the current VSS. I think I am going to try it tomorrow.

Does the VSS have anything at all to do with VTEC because it doesnt seem to be engaging. Still havent had time to compare the two sensors yet and I'm pretty sure the local Honda store will not know.
Scratch that...just got off the phone with Honda here in town and he said the two part numbers are the same. Hopefully I will get some time to change it out!

OK I finally got around to pulling the current vss assembly and compared it to my old sensor. The SIR2 sensor gear has 21 teeth and is taller and made of metal. The d15 b sensor gear is yellow plastic, has 20 teeth and shorter. Yet Honda says it should be the same part. Any Ideas?

I'll take it that nobody else has any idea. I just figured since so many others have done this swap someone would know. I just dont want to stick the wrong part in and have the plastic gear break inside.
