can a high compression block 11:1 be boosted?

what's up fellow honda swap owners,i have a 92 honda accord wagon w/h22a1 and hydraulic tranny.the head is stock but by dumb luck the block was rebuilt with forged high compression pistons(that's how i bought it).it was supposed to be a stock engine but i guess i got really lucky.there is a turbo kit on it but it is untuned.i am in the process of gettin it tuned w/hondata s300.what i would like to know how much boost can i get out of it without it blowing up?any information will be much appreciated.:confused:
 
if you tune it right, you could probably boost 6-8 pounds on it. i have seen a lot of turbo and sc ITRs. it's all about tuning. but don't get greedy or it will blow.
 
it also depends on the type of turbo and the egt readings...most people dont install an EGT but it helps with tuning timing and making sure you dont go overboard on boost.
 
The Matrix XRS models are 11.5:1 stock, they boost them to 9psi with a Water Injection setup.

I'm not the expert on this particular subject, but that's a different engine all together, and a different tuning system, correct?

However, water-injection helps alot..or so I've heard. I understand the chemistry behind the setup, and I think you meant water-methanol injection, which can actually cool the charged air down (water) and add loads of octane (methanol), all of which brings increased safety and more power at the same time.

If I were in the situation you were in, and I HAD to boost that high-compression motor, I'd use water-meth injection as well as a good intercooler.

Forged pistons, although stronger, are not necessarily going to work the greatest in your application. Those pistons are more than likely designed for all-motor, which means the crown on the pistons are not "turbo tuff", or thicker than your average piston. There's a reason why turbo pistons are much heavier than all-motor pistons. Keep this in mind when tuning the boost.

I've always been told by many, many mechanics and engine builders the same thing over and over: "It's not about the physical boundaries of modifications, it's about how much money you put in, how good the tuner is on hand, and how hard you drive that setup after it's completed."

Get it tuned by a good tuner that will tune with an egt probe and wideband.
 
should i change to low compression pistons and darton mid sleeves to be safe?

the head is still at the machione shop getting a port and polish and 3 angle valves.i think i'll get some darton mid sleeves and some arias low compression pistons.i've gone this far,might as go all the way.the wagon already has :cryogenics system(intercooler sprayer),aem fuel rail,aem fuel pressure regulator,b&m fuel pressure gauge,greddy 720cc injectors,accel ignition system,nology hot wires,hks spark plugs,autometer gauges(a/f,t-psi,tach)g timer.the transmission has a fresh rebuild and aluminum flywheel,stage 2 carbon kevlar clutch.the turbine that is in there might not withstand the boost(stage 2)that i want to make(it is mated with a stage 4 compressor.so i will change it to a stage v a/r.60 tubine w/stage v compressor 1.02.how much power can i get out of 720 cc injectors and a 0-50psi man. boost controller tuned to the sc300 on 100 octane.what do you guys think of this set up!:mellow:
 
1.02 talk about being on the laggy side so stop right now and do some research 1/2 of the stuff you just named off you dont need nor will it produce power thats desired theirs the easy way and then the road your going down dissapointment ave.
 
no joke, a 1.02 is too big for a supra and most v8s...let alone an h22...your turbo is way overkill.

A: If you have the money, absolutely...
 
With the proper tuning, you would definitely be safe boosting on 11:1 compression. Take that with a grain of salt though, because with a halfassed turbo setup, you'll destroy your motor. Do it right, don't try to cut corners or skimp on the tuning, and you could push a shitload of boost through the motor and make assloads of horsepower.

I've said it a million times...high compression + boost is where it's at...you just have to TUNE TUNE TUNE
 
^It may not be where it's at IMO, but its definately doable and can make awesome power.
 
Just in case people forgot to say it don't skimp out on the fuel. With high compression make sure you have a lot of fuel and a great turner
