Hey guys, I'm going to be taking my shift linkage out tonite, but I have a couple questions.

The 8 mm spring pin, is it 8mm wide? or is it 8 mm long? Confused about that. And does it go through the retainer as well?

Also, about the circled green part, I'm using the helms manual for everything, but what exactly does 8 x 1.25 mm mean as far as the bolt or nut is concerned?

Thanks for all your help.

the 8 mm spring pin is 8mm wide, (diameter) and does NOT go through the retainer, it is under the retainer
8X1.25 means one of 2 things regarding how a bolt is measured. . .
the 8 means that the threaded part of the bolt is 8mm in diameter
the 1.25 can mean 2 things, either that the bolt is 1.25inches long or that there are 1.25 threads per millimeter
Usually a bolt measurement has 3 parts, for a metric bolt it should be something like 8-1.25X30 in which the first number is the diameter of the threaded part of the bolt, the second number is the threads per millimeter, and the 3rd number is the length (in millimeters)
hope that helps
and I can't see your pic.

Yes, we lovingly refure to that as a bitch pin. If you need to remove it, get a 1/4" punch from home depot (i got a pack of 3 sizes for like $10) its a pain, but the 1/4" punch works beautifuly. I have also heard that if you leave it in the freezer overnight, it will help putting it back in cause the pin closes in on its self a little, and then will expand in to place when it warms up.

wow, good idea.

A good way to get the "bitch pin" out is to use a Torx bit (don't remember the size, just one that fits inside the pin neatly) for a screwdriver and pound it outa there. Maybe I was drunk but I don't remember it being that bad.

I got it out finally. I figured out why they call it the bitch pin, no not because it's a bitch, but because instinctivly the first thing you say as it goes flying accross the garage is "fuckin bitch!"

haha

ROFLAO, thats about right. But I think your talking about the spring pin around the shift linkage, unless you used the punch ALL the way.

My pin wont come out either, and right now i got a set of shift linkage that my friend is letting me barrow while i have hasport sitting in my garage right now(ls swap in my 92 hatch), but anyways...

has anyone every tryed taking an 8mm drill bit and drulling it out???

I have drilled them out before, the ony thing is that you have to be careful and drill as straight as you can, otherwise you could mess up the hole and then a new pin would be loose. I think that you can get the pin from honda for like a buck.
The other option is to use an 8 mm bolt and lock nut in place of the pin, I only did that on one car and only because the kid said he was going to change the linkage in a few days, needless to say he never changed it and is still running around with the bolt in there with no problems.

you can get it out, but it will take some encouragement. I used a 5lb hammer and the shaft of a 3/16 nut driver that I destroyed to make a homemade punch.
