a buddy of mine's '95 integra gsr (not swapped, original motor) seems like it is not engaging VTEC or if it is, it is not even noticable. Other integra's I have driven I can definitely notice. There are no trouble codes and the engine runs great, smooth powerband, and nothing seems out of the ordinary other than the above stated problem. It is a stock motor with i/h/e, can anyone direct me as to where I can begin to check into why this is happening? Thanks in advance

well.....sorry to lead you guys astray, but I got a chance to test drive it again in a more quiet and less supervised area =) but the VTEC is actually engaging. I don't know if I am desensitized to it because of the car I drive (see sig) or what. I hear the first note at around 5200 rpm then the secondary at about 5800 (sorry I am not to familiar with the B18C1's) if that sounds right to you guys. The problem still remains however that it still feels like there is not really any kind of kick in the ass. My buddy had another integra he drove previously and he seems to think the power is lacking from 5200 rpm and up as well. Maybe you guys know what ails it or tell me that I am just imagining things.

if VTEC was not engaging you would be tossing a CEL.

when was the last major tune up that orginal gsr motor had? like cap rotor wires plugs and all that comes with the tune up.

well like I said.....VTEC is engaging, however it doesn't feel like the car is receiving the power that the VTEC lobe promises. The car doesn't need a tune-up as it is running very smoothly and makes good power before the 5200 rpm point, afterwards I hear the exhaust notes changing, but the car doesn't feel like it is propelling any faster than it was had VTEC not engaged.

Vtec is 4400 and at 5800 the secondary runners open up. You cant really hear the vtec engage unless you really listen but the secondaries should be very audible. As for the powerloss id suggest a tune-up. :shrug2:

Also in a gsr, vtec doesnt feel like a burst of power, Its smoother unlike the h22 your use to. Or at least thats how the h22 I drove felt.

Yeah.....I definitely realize that, but still the other integra my friend had seemed like it was alot more noticeable. Both teggys were similarly modded, I dunno
