Well i would like to hear from any one who has converted to E85. Im going to convert my B18C5 with nitrous to this and was wantiong to know some first hand experiences...

this is what i have

set of ford 42lb/hr (440)s
aem ems
zetronix wideband
direct port nx kit (100hp)
walbro 255

Questions

will i run in to corosion problems in lines and fuel rail ( i plan on runing alcohol lube to help prevent this)

will my 255 hold up to the E85

does any one know the lambda readings for E85 stoich and a safe lambda to run at full throtle with nitrous

how much diffrent will my fuel jetting for my nitrous be with this and is there a chart or calculator that i can use for E85 like there is for gasoline

well hope to hear you thoughts about this good and bad are ok. bye the way this is not a DD bu ti do drive it around from time to time but finding fuel is not really a problem i just want to get away from runing the expensive MS109 from vp because i do like to drive around

I'm not sure what the conversion is from gasoline to E85 crap. I do know that E85 is WAY less energy dense than gas though, and that even 10% makes my S2000 run like crap. You might have to write a completely new fuel map to get your ITR to run on it, plus I wouldn't trust your fuel system with that much alcohol in it. It might not hold up for very long.

You realize that E85 is going to make you LOSE power, not to mention get worse gas mileage, right? The ONLY plus-side to E85 is that it's more hippie-friendly...

no it will make more power

its 105 octane and its alcohol so it will be cooler i can run more timing and i dont care about fuel mileage its a race car that i drive on the weekends and stuff i just dont want to run expensive race fuel like VP's MS109

The US government has mandated that auto makes build fuel systems capable of handling large concentrations of ethanol since the late 80s. So in that sense, your fuel system will do fine on E85.

I am working on a car right now that is managed by Megasquirt II. I have a FlexFuel sensor int he tank connected to the MS2 which senses the etahnol content of the fuel and blends the two sets of maps based on what's in the tank. Pretty cool stuff, although your fuel mileage will indeed suck.

stoich afr for ethanol is 9:1.

to obtain the lambda value you just divide the value given by the wideband by the stoich number for gasoline (since its meant to be used with gas).

example:

wideband reads 13:1
divide 13/14.7= .884

to get real AFR: multiply by new stoich number (9)

.884*9 = 7.96

information taken from plx website. not sure if it will be different for the zeitronix or not, but i think its the same.

I don't know how much of that is true. The fuel systems may be physically capable of passing ethanol through the engine, but they sure as hell aren't set up to just dump in E85 and go. I know the S2000s and the Minis definitely aren't- they both have problems with even 10% ethanol, and quite a few Minis have gone back with dead fuel pumps after running a few tanks of 10%.

hey i have a h.o 5.0 runing it you fuel sys is ok ...fuel pump should be ok .. nitrous not so good idea ... e85 carries it own o2 with it thats why you will run lean .. it has to have high compesstion to run the prime is 14.7 ....your fuel/air is 10 to 10.5 .... you need a blower or turbo to run this stuff right ... nitrous is a oxdiser e85 has o2 with it .. you would have to add so much fuel to get it right ...

i love this stuff it run cool more boost more timing and i get most of my big power off my timing boost if ran right it will get better gas mileage... its hard to start in the cold .. and you get high gas tank pressures in the heat ... it will clean out you fuel tank lol it will fuck up pumps and sreens and fillers intell you get all the shit the gas in it over the years sorry about spelling hey email if you want i have to find my papers i have to good number and a few webs site with set cars runing better then stock

people run nitrous and alcohol all the time why will this be a problem you just have to jet it correctly and nitrous has allready give me some jet sizes to start off with and the tech there said im gona love e85 he has converted his !g dsm over and has nothing but fun out of it
