The truck decided it wanted to blow out old tire #2, so I went ahead and put the Z71 wheels on along with a new set of Kumho ASX 245/50/16 tires.
I chose the Kumho ASX because it was the best tire available locally without being ridiculously expensive, and I didn't have time to wait for The TireRack.com to deliver to me. Downtime for the truck was not an option.

Info:

Stock wheels were 14x6 +30mm offset, 215/70/14 tires
New wheels are 16x7 +51mm offset, 245/50/16 tires (10 inch section width)
- Z71 wheel centers were bored to 4 inches at a local machine shop to clear the Nissan hub
- Z71 wheel is 22.5 pounds with center cap after boring the center
- open ended acorn bulge seat nuts + matching Gorilla locks were used to hold the wheels down
- no vibration at high speed even though wheels are now lugcentric instead of hubcentric
- stock tire diameter is maintained within a few millimeters, so overall gearing is not affected
Kumho ASX is rated 420 AA A

I love the fit and I love the traction. Gas mileage has not been affected.

Sort of a downward looking view:

Width of tire from rear- love that mismatched beater tailgate!

Clearance to leaf spring- about 1 inch:

Clearance to frame at back of front wheel- about 1 inch at rest, will rub a tad during a full lock turn:

Clearance to radius rod at front of front wheel- about 1 inch at rest, will rub a tad during a full lock turn:

Same radius rod clearance, different angle:

Damn, those wheels look badass on the nissan...a lot better than I thought they would :p

fix the civic yet?

shit i wanna get a Nissan Hardbody and get the chrome 17" Cadillac Escalade wheels on em. they look badass on those.

Mike...you should just bag the thing and call it a day :D

looks good bro. making progress!! any plans on doing more to it?

Yeah, lots- but not what you would normally plan. ;)

Turbo, LSD, beef up suspension a bit, repaint- that's the general feel of what I want to do. Cheap cheap too.

Amazing. Paint it black and sell it to me.

Nah. I will probably paint it satin black though. :)

that truck rocks :)

Picking up the distributor as soon as I leave work.

i didn't know you were a truck guy too?

Not in the traditional sense. I needed a truck to haul stuff and tow cars, and the Hardbody is the only small truck that can tow more than 1500 pounds. It's actually rated to 3500, or 5000 with the 3.0L and the beefier rear axle. After I drop that axle in and boost the engine, I'll be able to tow more. I've already made multiple cross-state trips with a car carrier, and I never got less than 18mpg, even running 80mph.

I bought this truck when my CRX died for the 3rd time. This vehicle is infinitely more useful!

No bags! :p

fuckin engineers <shakes head>

most NORMAL people simply pop a wheel off and mount up the new ones to check fit

Satin black....... dude..... you are building MY TRUCK.

Honestly.... DE swap, simple bolt ons, satin black.... the ONLY difference is that I HAVE to have an extended cab because I can't fit inside the normal ones.

please tell me you have more plans.

Nope, that's about it. Why would I want to waste all the money on the truck when I can spend it on the house and the S2000? :)

No swap for me- no point. No simple bolt ons either- custom turbo is the way to go. Satin black hides defects well too. ;)

what year is that truck?

i didn't know they could pull that much weight

It's a 95- and yeah, they can pull that much weight. Even the Colorado can't pull 5000 pounds. I know the frame can take it- now I just have to beef up the drivetrain a bit.
