well ive posted almost everywhere and they all flamed me not suprisingly .. anyways... i have a 89 crx si with a stock b16a. i was wondering would it be more efficient to build the motor or swap to a b18 or k20? im currently am on a budget.
if i should stick with the b16a and jsut build the motor can someone tell me where to start?

you have ALOT of reading to do. We cant tell you what to do with your car dude. Do you like your b16? what power goals are wanting? I assume its a daily driver/weekend warrior. What b18 do you want? B18A1,A2,B18B,B18C,B18C1,B18C5? If your on a budget you might want to throw the K20 out of your head. Thats ALOT of money, just figure 5g's alone for the motor.
Do you gey what i'm saying? What are you plans? From what you sound like now i think you should build your b16 and see how much you like it then. Not until you read on swaps and different engine's alittle more will i make sense.

Personaly i would do lsvtec since you already have the head. build a ls block while your car is still running. Then when you get the LS block bult to your wants you can have it put in. Quick, time saving and no downtime for your car. hope this helps

well price isnt a problem i just rather not dish out my whole savings on a car ... powerwise im aiming for 195hp... i know the b18c5 will come with it stock but that will cost me 7000 alone and i dont have a garage to do the swap so thats probably another 3k ... can u give me places to start reading cuz i just want my car to be street performable. thanks for not flaming me lol ...

lol no problem I got flamed on when i first started. I would sart on the engine building thread first. theirs alot of info there. I still say find an ls block. and machin to mate with the b16 head. that should get you closer for cheaper. Of cours there are other options that the lsvtec offers. you can swap out the pr4 piston with your b16 piston for higher compression I believ it would put you somewhere around 11.5. that will get you a pretty peppy car. then you can upgrade to some gsr cams. All these thing s you can find everywhere for cheap. especially the gsr cams. you must remeber to get new vtec oil and water pump for you ls block or else you engine will starve at high rpm's.

I had a port and polish done to my jdm head. All new forged rotating assembly for my ls block and stage2 cams. I KNOW my car is at 195 or better. If you want to get to 200whp. adding displacement will definitly make it easier.
the new block internals cost me around $1,300. everything else you have to shop to get the best deals. i got my stuff second hand but they work great

yea my car is currently drivable but i dont have a garage to do any work on it in so i guess i have to hire someone to do so... another dumb question  whats i/h/e ..

well i was told on honda-tech to look up cams first... im leaning towards the skunk2 stage 2 cams but would u guys recommend otherwise? i got flamed on honda-tech lol... i dont know alot about cars .. but i know for a fact that iwant it to run smooth and be streetwise as well.. everything on the car is completely stock accept steering wheel, and shocks.

well me again .. after reading through endless forum nonsense i came up with a build for a lsvtec in a 89crx. just need suggestions and statements if im doing something terribly wrong cuz im newb...=)..

Skunk2 Stage Two Cams
LSVTEC Block
stock b16 head

well thats all i have for now .. order doesnt matter correct -_-?...

youve already got the head right?

the stock lsvtec makes about 140 whp using just the b16 ecu (p30 untuned). a tuned ecu will bump that number up sizabley. cams will increase even more. LSVTEC is a good build, and with ctr pistons (requires new rods), new cams, an itr intake manifold and good map, you could easily push over 200.

P30 Pistons - $170 (hmotorsonline)
Crower Stage II Cams - $500 (crower.com)
SuperTech Valve Springs and Retainers - $330 (ebay)
ITR Intake Manifold - $210 (hmotorsonline)
Golden Eagle LS/VTEC Kit - $350 (LOTS of places)
LS Block - $300 (might be over shooting it for message board prices)
1 hour on the dyno - $150 (average)

add about 400 bucks to that, for gaskets, bearings, lube and other products. Youll be at about 190ish to the wheels with the above setup

itll be 190 at the wheel? if so this is a really good/easy build o_o...

most important. its reliable. once you start to mess with anything higher like big cams, really high compression and what not you start to mess with reliablility, I mean if you get it built and tuned right its fine. But then again the more things you mess with the more you jeapordize gas mileage, idle, noisier exhaust and other things that i personally dont care about. If you dont either then your all good.

I/H/E i might have somewhere to do it i just have to ask my dad about it .. so the build on top isnt smog legal in california? so confusing ... what exhaust would be best for 89 crx si. i want it to be loud and sound nice... -_-; noobish .. i know ...

the build i listed is illegal in cali. if you live anywhere else youll be good as long as you get it tuned.

if you want that kinda power in cali and want it to be legal, youll have to go k20 or h22 (which is hard to do legitimately, but it can be done).

someone mind listing a LSVTEC build thats legal in cali with 190whp at the wheel instead of crank?

youre going to have a hard time pulling that off, just an fyi. Im pretty sure that lsvtecs are illegal all together in cali.
