Hello everyone! I just bought a 1988 Prelude and it is in nedd of some serious repair. I really like the look of the car so i'm gonna put some time and money into and see what I can do. The rear wheel on the right side sticks out like a sore thumb. The cross member is broken and I was wondering how I should go about fixing this problem. I got a 97 Civic LX for parts and was wondering if I could use some parts off that to fix the prelude up???^_^

No you can't use any of the parts from the 97.
You posted this in the wrong section, so it will be moved shortly.
Why does the rear wheel stick out? What cross member are you talking about being broken? Nothing on that car is hard to change except the 4 wheel steering components.

88 Prelude

The rear crossmember is broken. I haven't reall had a chance to look at the car all that good yet it is being dropped off in my driveway tonight. It hasn't ran for a year. What would be the best way to go about getting the vehicle going. I know I gotta get the battery boosted, but i'm pretty sure running old gas through it would not be the best thing for it. I'd appreciate any advice, thank you!!

No pics yet!

I'm gonna take some pics tommorrow. I've been waiting for buddy to drop it off for three days now and its still on the trailer. I called Honda today and they said it would cost 300 for the part brand new.

there are a few swap options... that year Lude is a B-series -but is different from all other B-series engines. the most common direct bolt in is the B20 goes right in and is a solid engine. There are engine mount kits for the H22 for about $400. Parts are limited for the B20 www.preludepower.com is a great resource.... use the search and the FAQ before you post... you should find everything you need there.
here is my old B20 3rd gen:

tha jdm b20 don't drop right in...tha harness is way different....tha h22 is tha only swap tha you can really do but it takes some work...i have an 89 si 4ws and as soon as i can get another car to drive while im workin on tha lude thats tha swap i'm goin to do....anyways you just got to get another cross member out a junker somewhere call your local junk yards they should have one

yes, the B20 goes right in... there are no "special" motor mounts needed and it is BY FAR the easiest swap for 3rd gen for the 88-89 it is a little more difficult vs the 90-91. H22 is big work and way less common...

It doesn't look so good???

Hey guys thanks for all the info. I recently had time to look the car over and the rear end is pretty bad. The bolts that come from the sub frame are rusted out, not even sure if its fixable. I was thinking maybe welding some reinforcements in because everything else work great. I got the engine running and it sounds great. I let it run for about 15 mins and then the rad started leaking. I gotta check it out, pretty sure its just a hose. Not sure how to get a pic on here can someone help me out. Thanks again!!!:D
