I just bought a 92 Civic DX hatchback from a Honda mechanic to take to college. It's a great car and I love it. I wanna keep it forever and needless to say it has some miles on the engine. When the engine finally goes I was thinking of replacing it with an H22A. I'm not looking to turn the car into a street racer or anything but I figured if I'm gonna spend the money I might as well get a power boost too. I was wondering how feasible that is?

it's feasible, but expect to pay $4,000 when all is said and done. if you are in college, i would wait. be patient and when you get out of college get a k-series. wait until you can afford it. if it goes out before then, get a stock motor for about $200 and call it a day. be patient young one. your time will come.

hell yeah get a h22a! i have one in my accord. you'll need to get new motor mounts i would sugguest hasport, i think that's how it's spelled. but it's nice to see someone put something other than a B18.

Where would you find out about the K series and would it be $4,000 after buying the engine and getting it put in my car? What kind of work has to done to the H22A to get it ready to fit inside my Civic? Do I loose anything like power steering and A/C? Sorry I'm so ignorant on the subject.

it's ok man, don't feel bad. the k-series is going to run about $7k. so it's not a swap that is feasible right now. you can keep your a/c but i don't know about power steering. most cars don't have it to begin with and i don't think your civic does either.

h22 swaps are a pain in the ass. i hate doing them. so i stopped. it is just tedious and they don't fit very well. that's why b series are so popular. you need new mounts, axles, shift linkage. all sorts of shit. plus if anything goes wrong, you don't have a back up car. that's why i suggest to be patient and wait a few years. i did, and now i have 2 decent cars. it's worth the wait.

a used k20a runs at about $5000
id go with the k-series but its out of my price range lol ...
but hey h22 swap is just as good :) .. go for it by all means!

i think people here are missing the point. how much money do you have available right now? when i was in college i couldn't afford a swap. it isn't really a priority. make sure you don't have any student loans or debt first. do you have a job? what is your current situation?

Thanks Nick. Not much at all maybe around $2,000 in the bank right now and when school starts that'll drop significantly. I can't afford it right now at all. I have a steady job during the summer and any breaks but I attend an out of state school, plus I need to keep up my grades to keep my scholarships so I focus on school during the quarters. You said I could get a stock engine for around $200? Would I get that at a Honda dealership or look around JDM sites?

I'm not really sure, but you might be able to find a good price on a b16 motor, it will run less than a b18. but with not alot of money i wouldn't go with an h22 since you do have to get alot of new parts, or i guess change over. but good luck with whatever you decide to do.

it depends. if it's a b18b it will be cheaper than a b16. not a b18c though. you can get a stock replacement motor online through sites like craigslist, hondaswap, and honda-tech. run the motor into the ground, but be easy on it. make your money stretch and don't worry about getting a motor swap.if you want one that bad, get a full time job working 40-50 hours a week. if you have minimal funds, be patient grasshopper.

Thanks again. I guess I'll just have to hope that the engine holds out with proper maintenance. The project will have to wait. Thanks for all the advice and knowledge on the subject.
