Ok so I want to do a b18c5 swap in a civic coupe or hatch. (keep in mind niether the motor or car has been bought as of yet, but will be one a choice has been made.) But before I planed to do the c5 swap I had put together a build sheet for a b18c1 and my head keeps telling my to go and build the b18c1 instead of buying the c5. So what would you do in this case, if you had the choice and why?
I am looking for 200whp.

Sorry for suck a dumb question, but I just can't make my mind up.

Ok this is some of what I have on my build sheet,

N/A setup.

B18c1 block:
Itr pistons
shoot peaned rods
arp rod bolts
oem rings
oem bearings

B18c1 head:
Ctr intake cam
Itr exhaust cam
crower springs
crower retainers
mild port and polish
skunk 2 intake mani.
crower cam gears.

Again this is just part of the build, I also need opinions on ideams such as headers, ect. anything that would help this build reach or go past 200 whp.

P.S. I have researched this on this forum and others but I just want your opinion and help making the choice.:)

Thanks
Kris

i would get the b18c1 and put in ctr pistons. it will raise the compression to 13:1. run stage 2 or stage 3 skunk2 cams. you will have better luck with getting that hp. also, i would invest in a real header, such as smsp.

turbo LS FTW!!

+1...that's always my vote. but for some reason people want to work harder and pay more for less performance. i don't get it....:shrug2:

Thats my vote too. Ever since Brian hasn't been around I have seen a lot less LS-Ts. A lot less baby momma drama too I guess.

Turbo is great! I on the other hand like all motor. Bolting on a turbo is to easy to me I like to build my engines and try to get the most out of what I got. It does cost more but I have all the time in the world to build what I want. Even though I'm not rich so it may take longer but that doesn't bother me at all. Beacause I am not in a hurry to get the car and build the motor. I guess I like to do things the hard way, but when I spank a v8 and they see that I am all motor the look on thier face makes it all worth it. :)

thanks

I will deff. look in to that header. Can you keep your a/c with that header? I know that having 13:1 compression and stage 2 or 3 cams would help me reach my goal a little faster but that is alittle to much for a street car IMO. Now with a good tune and with what I have listed in your opinion what kind of whp do you think I could make? 170-180whp. I am thinging of swaping a b16 head on the b18c1 block since the pr3 head is the same casting as the pr3/pr4 c5 head. Even thought it has some tricks for the factory. The poor mans type r is a good way to go also.

Thanks for your help!!

i would leave the b18 head on there if you are going to build it. with high comp and that header, you should hit 200 easy with a good tune. i have seen stock b18c5 with that header and a good tune make 195hp at the wheel.

damn that must be a good header! Deff. makes me interested!

Thanks

it's a $900 header. but it's pretty much the only one that does anything. you will see 12-15hp. shit like dc header are only like 2-3 hp. smsp kicks ass.

well I know that with the itr pistons I will be at 11.59:1 compression. That sounds more streetable then 13:1. Not saying the 13:1 is bad but I would only go that route say if I was building a race motor for a car that i was not driving on the street. But I think that 900 is alittle to much for a header even though it make 12-15 hp. I plan on using a itr 4 to 1 header. I know that I might not reach my goal of 200whp but Its cool, I would like to get close though. You have helped alot so I thank you!

well, you will still have a good build with itr pistons and itr header. it is all about budget and how you want to drive it. good luck and post lots of pics of your build.
