I'm thinking about a swap. Which swap would be the better swap; H22 or B18C1 in a Ek hatch?

Any comment is welcomed.

Thanks in advance.

um...i'm going to try to save you before you get flamed....

edit your post....

include things like; budget, driving purpose, power goals, and mechanical skills.

this question is asked everyday so i'm giving you a heads up before people get mad at you.

Thanks for the heads up...but I'm asking people who have driven or owned one of them and which swap would they recommend.

I don't think I've offended anyone's daily venting...

thanks tho..

well, you are going to get several different answers for several reasons. here's mine...

b18b. ls motor. why??? it's cheap, economical, easy to swap, and you can build it all motor for cheap to. if you want to boost it, it can handle boost. plus, i just like to save money for mods.

in an ek....well the number of times ive said the words "Dave forget about the turbo and just drop in a gsr" really say it all. The gsr is an easier swap and its more practical. My life revolves around wanting to get on some kinda of racing circuit, so keep that in mind when reading this post.

An EK has amazing potential in its suspension, and a N/A GSR makin around 230-250 to the wheels is really gonna kill on the track (with the right suspension). While the H22 would make for a good daily driver, it does (no matter how much i hate to say it) throw off the balance of the car.

If it were me, id do the following:

swap a gsr
mill the head .02
swap p30 pistons
get some s2s2 cams (cause s2p2's and buddy club 4s are EXPENSIVE)
get my p72 tuned
maybe a 4.7 FD and definitely an lsd.

engine done. after that, hit up the suspension with some koni yellows and some ground control coil overs (maybe tein super street if i wanna shell out some cash).

neuspeed bars, and voila, i have myself a pretty decent track car that can run on almost any street.

(i skipped things in the build like bearings and rings and break in time, but you see where im going)

it really depends on what you do. if you just want something that will impress people, an h22 ek is something i dont see a whole lot.

I would say I have had both and out the box the h22 is more powerful. Now when it comes to modding them thats a different story. But remember this there is no replacemnt for displacement. Thats the muscle guys saying , but a true one.

greygoose, i have a h22 and ive driven proper gsrs.....go with the gsr and new map. youll be much happier.

Okay in those terms yes but if you if you know what your doing both swaps are okay to do. But a gsr swap in a ek is a straight up easy swap.

you said "better" swap. that is a very vague term and could mean a million things. better could be: easier swap, faster, more hp, more tq, cheaper, fuel efficient, anything. h22 swaps are a pain in the ass. i hate doing them. yes HATE doing them.

LOL they are okay swaps and I have done my share of them. I don't remember saying better but if I did it would be because stock for stock they have more torque and are faster out the box. Now when it comes to modding them I think it's up to you or how much cash you have to spend or credit cause I take that too. lol

you didnt say better.. the original poster did

and if you read my post, my choice of the gsr is not because of its power, its because it preserves the balance of your car. if youre rinning drag that doesnt matter, but if you are trying to run a road course on an unbalanced car, youre fucked.
