When I first start my car and drive, my engine makes a weird ticking noise that speeds up as my rpms rise. After the car is running for some time the noise goes away. Does anyone know what this is or how to fix it. Should I be alarmed?

Adjust my valves? What does that mean? Sorry if I sound like an idiot but I don't really know what that means? Can you explain what it means and how to do it? Also what would cause the valves to need adjusted? Would poorly adjusted valves cause the car to tick only when first starting or when cold? Can you explain why it does it? I am not questioning you, I am just curious and have a thirst for knowledge. I appreciate any help I get.

no.no.

i can adjust the valves on my mirage (pretty much same setup as a d15b2) in ~10 minutes.

hey turbomirage, how come you recommend me getting my valves adjusted yet in another forum you said it didn't help you?

Not sure if you've ever seen inside a motor Skiefer but theres a lot going on. A LOT of metal on metal parts moving. Adjusting the valves takes less then a hlaf hour and is relatively easy to try. Its a start :)

Has it been awhile since you changed the oil? Have you been driving it harder since the last oil change?

sure. my car used to have hydrolic self adjusting valves.

now that i have my new head on and the valves are adjusted a bit loose, they are vocal. when i tighten them up this weekend the noise will go away.

since you probably have no idea what it looks like under the valve cover, here you go.
