So I was bored and went to the Ariel Atom website and I was building an Atom to my specs, I have a question between the 2.0 Ecotec motor and the 2.0 k20 motor. In supercharged form both put out 300bhp, but the Ecotec puts down around 250 ft/lbs of torque and the Honda 163.

Granted they didn't have a dyno sheet to show the torque curves or anything, but my question is this, with a car as light as the Atom, is the lack of (presumably low end) torque detrimental in the Honda one as opposed to the Ecotec one?

Would the Honda one rev higher and probably have more of an F1 feel to it?

Why is there such a big torque difference? Supercharged you'd think it'd put down at least 200 ft/lbs of torque.

I'll take either one in carbon fibre please  :D

i think they got the number wrong for the Honda, it makes 163lb-tq STOCK! Unless the K20 isnt supercharged at all.

The car already pulls 0-60 in something like 2.3 seconds (or is it less than that?) I'm not sure if that's with or without the supercharger. The one the guys tested on Top Gear was SC'd.

Anyway, I think you can get it with or without the SC on it too, it doesn't say anything about an SC in the specs.

Either way, it's a light fast as hell car.

Ariel Atom by Brammo Motorsports, LLC for the Americas - Home Someone on another forum I go to posted a video of himself riding shotgun on a road course in the 230hp Ecotec Atom... The best part was when it passed the Ford GT making it look like it was standing still. :D

doesn't surprise me. The US company wants to use a US company's engine.

Still fast as shit. Too bad it's not street legal here.

the Ecotec is more than a (Ford) motor in the Atom configuration. the Ecotec is regarded as a Formula 2000 motor (Formula Atlantic, like the 20V 4AGE and the Cosworth that I run). If you look now, you'll see that Cosworth does primarily the Ecotec motors for the past few years

Don't knock an engine before you understand it.

I'm not a domestic 4 banger fan but I hear a lot of good things about the Ecotec motor. Tough choice, TQ is nice :)

The Atom is pretty badass, I like the K1 Attack too.

If you meant that for me, I'd like to know where I knocked the Ecotec.

I like the engines, they're stout little fuckers with potential.

I just don't like the cars they're in.

likewise if it was meant for me... lol, i'll take the extra 87 ft/lbs of torque and save a few grand! :)

The Ecotec motor is a GM product (not Ford). Cosworth does sell a lot of Ecotec parts, although I wouldn't say they 'primarily' do Ecotec. As a Cosworth dealer I have some idea of their product line ;) Formula Atlantic has been replaced by the Pro Mazda series and Formula 2000 is a relic of the late 80s running 150 whp 2.0L 4 cylinder motors (not Ecotec though). Not sure where all that fits in with regards to the Ecotec motor, although I suppose 'relic' and 'your Cosworth' fit together somehow. :D

If I was getting an Atom, it would probably be the reflashed K20. The Honda tranny is better engineered and shifts smoother with closer spaced ratios and obviously the Honda engine revs higher (I like the peaky powerband, and it would make the car easier to drive with a bit less area under the curve).

I love you, I want to marry you. Can you get me Cosworth bits ?! I would bear your children if you can get me Cosworth bits for my Vega

oh please oh please oh please
