So it just bugs me that people can go out and buy fast cars from the lot. . now these "fast" cars are not out of peoples price range for the most part. . these arent 9082304802384 dollar cars. . no these cars are STI's, Srt4's, Evos, S2k's. . and things of that nature. Yes i know there are domestics that come with loads of power also. . But its depressing when these kids (for the most part) dont know how to drive, yet can beat most cars on the road in a straight line. Auto X is a whole other story.

There is no glory in building your own car any more it seems. kids just go out and tell mommy/daddy to buy them a 30K+ car then use there moms money to mod it. I myself am not that old, i am only 19 going on 20, but i have built my own swap, dropped in my swap, built my car, dyno'd it and made about 180whp ( i think my clutch is slipping ) and take great pride in what i have done. This would hold true for most people, but its just sad when people dont know the amount of work that goes into building a nice car. The other day i had some s2k owner tell me my car was a piece of shit and his car was worth 30k. . . blah blah blah. . . yet he cant drive for crap and got his ass handed to him because he doesnt know how to drive.

But i thougth that was funny, the s2k owner was like your cars crap, its an 89. . . i was like wow doesnt that make your 06 look bad, seeing as it lost to a piece of crap. but honestly it seems that people dont have any respect any more for things that people build and actually put time into. Opposed to going to a lot and buying one in perfect condition.

Tonight, the whole thing that started this trend, was an encounter with an srt4. Now i know these are cars not to be taken lightly, but i figured why not give it a shot, so from a roll he takes me no prob ( boost is crazy stuff). From a stop in 1st gear i hook up and pull about 1.5-2 cars on him, 2nd about another .5, hit 3rd and he catches up and passes me. . now im no driving expert but people dont need to noe how to drive in a straight line if they have oodles of power and just smash on the gas peddle once they have traction. They dont need to know how to feather the clutch, quick shift. . . nope the just smash there right foot to the floor. . so then i give him a thumbs up, he looks over and gives me a thumbs down. . . interesting way to end something. but i figured wow, you put how many hours into that car, not including the time it takes to fill teh tank.

just a final note, i wish people took pride in the things they built and put time and effort into, and not take so much pride in how fat there parents check book is and how much of a baby face they can make. . because in the end we all know who comes out on top with a better understanding and greater appreication of life ( not just cars). Sorry this is just me ranting about random shit. . . im almost sure this bugs other people as well

i really dont know whats been going on in the dallas area lately. i played with a non turbo 300zx, ta, camaro and 2 gsrs in the last week or 2 and not one of em didnt give me a peace sign, thumbs up or a nod. I was suprised when the guys in the domestics werent shouting obsenities.

btw. Apparently a prelude can hold with a TA from 60 to 85. when the prelude shifts to 4th its all over.
 
yeah crazyazn i no wat you mean, i hate dicks who think there hot shit just coz there car is new and shiny and go s quick. over here in australia the popular cars are holden commodores and ford falcons they arnt to quick but the pricier versions go alright for foor door sedans. it shits me to tears, every day i see some stupid idiot drive like a fuck head and do dum ass driving stiles and think there cool just coz there car is identical to the next blokes and a thousand just like it, they think there car is some fucking super race machine but all it is is the latest model off the production line, with a sticker across the windshield that ses the same thing as the badge on the back, no engine mods, no exceptional power, nothing. thats my rant.

But I agree with the parents check book thing - I go to school with a lot of douches from NY and NJ, who have no knowledge about cars, other than that they have one. Still, they have no idea how to drive, and it pisses me off to see them rolling G35's, WRX's, EVO's and RSX's. Luckily, most of the highway encounters haven't been as bad. One time I rolled on with a Duramax F250 on RT146, with my older car. The guy clearly had stuff done, and I managed to stay with him up to 100. We both slowed down at the next light and had a good laugh.

They way I look at it is that there'll always be douchebags in the world, whether it comes to cars or anything else. I'm sure the same thing happened when a new Model T beat a Model A. I bet the T owner was a jerk about it. :D

There are plenty of cars out there to build that will rape these new 'fast' cars you are jealous of:

Nissan 240sx/Silvia, 1g/2g DSM, Starion, RX-7, 302 Miata/Turbo Miata, Blow GM or Blown Ford's, etc.

Your choices are limited but it still can be easily done for much less than a 30k Evo MR or STI.



One thing i will agree with is that most of these new cars are owned by complete asshats who ALWAYS do the ricer fly-by and weave in/out of traffic.

Getting one of these morons to line it up for a true race is like getting Paris Hilton to become a Nun. . . . not happening.

uh...you lost me here.

How would this apply to both SRT4 owners and WRX owners. I wasn't aware that the SRT-4 had a horizontally opposed engine that would make it have a sound anything remotely the same as a WRX...

And the stock WRX's exhaust manifold really isn't poorly built. Most people just port and polish the stockers, and sometimes buy an upgraded crosspipe that has no flex joint. Headers aren't big in the subaru crowd because little is gained from them - you can go equal length and lose the boxer sound and spend big money and thats about the only way you're going to gain very much. I bought maddad headers because they were dirt cheap, but it killed some of my driveabilitiy.

The '06 's just switched to an equal length and the ej20 just won engine of the year and has been used for 25years - for a poorly designed engine. :p

Now its a different story if they're ricers with WRX's and have fart cans, BOV's and intakes - unless they have a FMIC and turbo upgrade.
 
That's not a mod, that's a necessity. The only car I've driven with more turbo lag is the SAAB 900.

The WRX is a great little car, I suppose... everyone told me so. But in the end it's nothing more than a bottom-of-the-line car with a top-of-the-line cost and status. They put a turbo in the base line, a cool hood on it (And lots of aluminum body parts that go mostly unnoticed because they only manage to shave about 2 pounds) and BAM - instant cult classic.

You can pick up a used NSX for less.

There was a time in history when sports cars were designed from the ground-up to be sports car. I think the Supra was the first to end that trend, but even the Celica Base was at the higher end of their line-up. The Scion tC is toyota's only hope now.

As far as Subaru, people have to remember that it's a fuckin Subaru, above all the hype. The Cobalt SS kicks it's ass (on dry roads) every time. Hell, my Vega (Which is an earlier example of 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag) beats the WRX.

Neons are neat. and the SRT is ok because it follows the dodge principle of "high performance trim for every model" (The SRT programme).

My Vega, in fact, was the cheapest car in the GM lineup in the 70s. With the single Cosworth engine upgrade, it doubled it's price. Was it worth it ? No one bought it, so I guess that's a no. Back then people believed that a sports car was based on a fast car, and an econo car should be the cheapest on the line-up. but either way, the WRX / EVO phenomenon isn't new.
 
I point out the BOV on the WRX because it makes it run rich in between shifts and hinders performance, along with the intake throwing off the MAF readings and causing the car to pull timing and actually lose power. On a FMIC setup these things are fine, but not for the WRX.

I like the Evo but I think it has the same downsides as the STi and I'm not sure how the Evo X and '07 STi limited compare now. They're both boats of cars.

Like I've said for awhile now, after the huge leaps and bounds Subaru took with the '06 WRX - giving it 4pots/2pots, the 2.5L engine and a beefier transmission - I'd take a WRX and mod it over paying the new price of an Evo/STi at this point. Engine management, 16g/VF series turbo, swaybars, and springs/struts. You're in for an extra $2000 if you buy new and you outperform a stock evo and sti.
 
When compared between the STi and EVO, yes.

but consider other vehicles that can be had for WAY less, and do WAY more.

The GMC Typhoon / Syclone kicks both of their sorry asses siz ways to sunday. The end. However, they are Automatic only, which sucks. A V8 converted RWD car can be had for pennies on the dollar, and older performance cars STILL rock the casbah (Ever drive a 1984 Supra?)

Then there are the exotics that can be had for cheap too. Porsche 928 / 944T / 911 or even a 930 can be had for 4000-$30,000 (Respectively) and provide WAY more bang for the buck. Insurance ? Yeah.. that's a problem for you kids. You'll have to just deal. I did.

B is right though. until a buddy of mine wrecked his mustang, that was the fastest thing id ever driver. 568RWHP with no spray and then he was running a 200 shot. yeah. Just on supercharger that car scared me. Barely tap the peddle and the back in would come out. He told me lat that he never uses first gear...which makes sense. Strange thing is he wrecked it doing the speed limit. Fuckin drunk drivers. Dude's cousin died in the crash, mustang boy now drives a mazda speed6 and has sworn off going fast. the mazda speed will walk my car, but he bought it because of the side curtain airbags and safety stuff.

Im finally getting to my point. Eventually it doesnt matter how fast you go. Speed is all realative and how fast do you really need to go. Really all that speed does is make you move faster when someone runs your car into a wall.
