Finally got the cash to do a swap. I currently have a 1999 Civic EX D16Y8 and am looking for guidance. I've searched this forum a lot and found that I want a B series motor, maybe a GSR or Type R Integra motor. Where can I find complete kit with everything I need to do this in my garage?

Thanks.

There's a guy on another forum I'm on with a Y8 that made 210whp with a T04E at 7psi. He plans on tuning for higher boost but he JUST got the car together. 200ish whp feels like a LOT in a lil Civic, I know it feels fast in my Accord. I'm making over 250wtq though :p

i'm at 310K i guess we should start a 200K and higher club. i'm on d16y8 #3 right now

^LMAO!! Gotta admit, thats the beauty of Honda's. They're VERY cheap to keep running. You blow a motor, it can be had for lil money and swapped in a weekend.

OMG @ 310K

Well, my D16Y8 is making some very odd noises. It was like this when I purchased it from a relative who was behind on payments and was about to get it repo'd. I just wanted a drive to work beat up car. Anyways, you can hear this car coming from a mile away. It almost sounds like a power steering pump going out, but it's not. The sound seems to be coming from around the timing belt area. Kinda hard to tell. BUT, even with the noises I've never had a problem with the car. I jumped on the opportunity to buy it too because in 2001 my wife totalled a 1999 EX. She flipped it end over end 3 1/2 times in Georgia on I-95(?) I think. Anyways, she was in the car with my mother-in-law and my son who was 11 months old at the time. The car was upside down and they all walked away from the wreck. The only injury was a cut on my wife's hand. Pretty amazing car IMO.

Would either of these swaps be good for my car:
JDM B18C-R G1 '96-97 Integra Type-R [B18CR1] : JDM-Online.com, JDM Engines & Accessories
JDM B18C G1 '93-'96 Integra GS-R with LSD [B18CG1-LSD] : JDM-Online.com, JDM Engines & Accessories

Thanks.

et tu? no one sees the potential in the D. well the initial motor in the car lasted 310k miles the second lasted 130k before it tore up (rod broke) and motor #3 is waiting to be installed. i see the potential. but if you want to upgrade go with the B18CR

My D16Y8 has 101K. Apparently the noise started around 60K, but has had no impact on driving... well except that you no longer need to use your horn because everyone can hear you coming ... lmao. The car is going in for paint/body work in 2 weeks.

No, it's not any visible belts. I've played with those. It really sounds like it's coming from the timing belt area. Anyways, it just gives me an excuse to swap for the engine I desire. I'm not sure if I want to go with the Type R motor or the GS-R still. That's a pretty nice price difference. I can afford the Type R motor, but do I want to afford it, lol. I'm just worried I won't be happy with the GS-R motor. Decisions, decisions. I'm looking to do the swap a couple weeks after I get the car back from paint/body. Probably should have done the swap before paint, but had an opportunity to get the paint/body done for cost, so...

if you dont think youll be happy with the gsr, then i bet you wont be happier with the c5... unless you like all top end..

lol d series... get a dohc vtec... more fun. I had a y8 with 127k on the clock and my oil pump gave out at 6500 rpms. Not saying this couldn't happen to a b series but for some odd reason my b series has held up to ALOT more abuse.

^ very unlikely...oil was changed every 2500 miles. Unless the orig. owner didn't take care of it but also doubt that because he spent alot of time and money on it. Either way sohc isn't alot of fun without a turbo unless it's built and in a hatch.

i was doing a lot of research on a powerhouse D before I jumped on the b-bandwagon. I wasn't seeing anything too impressive that warranted me keeping the d except for the interesting concept of putting a built hx head on it (vtec-e) and supercharging it. Supposedly the torque numbers were pretty impressive but the only reason I didnt go through with it was I dont have the time.

You'll be happy with a GSR man, my buddy has one in his gutted ek and he showed me a timeslip from the previous owner with a 14.1 pass. Not too freakin bad. Even if you only see high 14's out of it at first, thats still a pretty fun ride.

Well my d16y8 gave out at 120k. It now has a hole in the engine block and i took very good care of it. The problem was the person before me NOS'ed stock parts. Which really sucks for me bc im now stuck looking for another motor. Hopefully sticking with a D16y8, so if you have ne ideas on where i can get one that would be great.
