ok, heres the deal. I LOVE cars, but until about 2 years ago, not big on sport compacts. So I dont know abou the different honda engine names like B15, B16, D15, and so on. Can someone PLEASE explain the differences and how to tell each engine apart.

P.S. I am contemplating on buying a 93 Del Sol S with a 1.5L which engine IS this?

That Engine Is The Sohc D15 Non Vtec I Think It Has 102 Hp. What Do U Want The Car For Dd Or Race ? If Its Dd Ur Fine But If U Want It For Race Ur Going 2 Have 2 Get Another Engine. A B16 Dohc Vtec 160 Hp Would Be Nice.

Good Luck

yeah, thats the real question, what are you doing with your car. Del Sols are super short wheel base (just like their actual civic counterpart) and with the right suspension, it can be a kick ass track car (as one of our mods has already prove). Most of the people around here can point you in the right direction for your build.

yea its just goin to be a daily driver with hopefully about 200 hp... after headers, exhaust, intake, throttle body, intake manifold, cam shaft, cam gears.

Do you think 200 hp is a good estimate... more..less..what? i kno theres no way to tell actual hp rating... but what do you think is goin to be a conservative estimate?

are you trying to keep the stock motor and get those numbers at the flywheel? If so, thats a HUGE strech. This isnt a v8, most hondas are overengineered, so I/H/E usually gets you 10-15 horsepower, add cams to that and your talking MAYBE another 10-15.

If you want 200 at the flywheel, id go with a IHE GSR with some stage one cams, and a good tune. Thatd probably get you where you want to be (and beat a whole lot of smug ford owners).

thanks... but now that i think about it i dont know if i want to get a del sol... i am 6 ft tall and im thinking i mite be a little cramped. So ive decided to get a 92-95 civic, and ive found one thats 2100 dol. and its got the 1.5L... is that still the d15??

i want about 175-200 at the wheels with basic "low budget" mods... no turbo or swap to start.

that dosent mean theres absolutly no swap in store... look to do a B18 swap down the road, a LONG ways down the road

but im not completely sure im even going to get a honda... really want to... but my price is 2500 max, that ways i can sell my car and have most of it, and i have to get a new job to make sure i can pay for ins. and gas

i did find a 94 civic DX with 149K miles... dont think i want a car with that many miles... but i know that not bad for a 12 yr old car...

BUT... gotten off of the reason i started this whole thing... ENGINE CODES- what years, displacement and codes are the honda engines, still confused, ive gotten a lil bit better... but not completly confident

sry, i didnt mean 2500 for the car and the parts.

i dont want to spend more than 2500 for the car... ill get the parts as i save up money

im still of the mind that 175HP at the wheels is not gonna happen on an SOHC engine N/A. A B16 it could happen, and a B18C (hell even a B18a(b) probably pull it off).

Id look for a shell and swap or something. An SOHC just wont cut it.

not exactly sure what im going to do right now, i have to get the car first... thats gonna be in about a month or 2 max... just gotta make sure i have a job so i can pay for insurance and gas

not sure if im goin 2 or 4dr... but chances are itll have a D15... but i kno the first thing im getting is a DVD/Navigation headunit... then the real fun begins.. but to start... I/H/E... then cam and cam gear... intake manifold and throttle body (if i can find one)... springs, struts, wheels and tires... body kit, hood

but i have no idea what kinda power its gonna make... i want atleast 150... cuz i kno my olds has about that... and nething less is crap

but im also lookin for a shell of some sort... not exactly sure what im going to get... prbly a crx or 92-up civic... thats gonna be the main focus... not sure what motor to put in it tho..

put it this way. my best friend has a 99 civic hatch. he takes great car of the car, hes got an intake, an open header, carbon fiber hood and tuned ecu. For an N/A D16Y7 hes making decent power....probably in the 100WHP range. He's quick, but by no means fast. your goals are not realistic for what you want to buy.

let me put something else in perspective for you. a civic weighs between 2300 and 2700 lbs. the average oldsmobile STARTS at 3400lbs (unless we are talking about an alero). 2300lb civic with 107 BHP stock vs. 3200lb (just incase it is an alero) oldsmobile with 150 BHP stock. which do you think will win.

If you are going to be a honda owner, we are going to teach you the difference between myth and reality. I/H/E and Cams on a SOHC will NOT net you the results your looking for. A B16 will come very close all on its own and a GSR will put you right at 150WHP.

You cant live in a dream land about building a car. if you do, youll just be disappointed.

obviously u know more about the whole honda thing than me. ..

but i am lookin for a 92-up shell to do a swap... either a B18 or possibly H22???... would u go h22? is it worth it... cuz if im not mistaken, dosent Hasport make all the parts for the swap?

would it be worth it, tho... with the I/H/E... cams... and so on, could i make my 150whp with just the motor... and 225 with a turbo?

ok... so is the gsr the B18C1??... cuz lookin on ebay... i typed in "gsr motor" and it came up with a few B18C1... and 1 or 2 H22...

so which is it... or is it either?

ok... so if i go the B18C1... and i want to turbocharge it later down the line... do i want to get pistons with a 8.9 cr... or a 9.1...or does it matter that much

and yes i do plan on rebuilding the motor before i put it back in a car... so new rods, pistons, cam, cam gears, valves, valve springs, etc...

w/o the turbo and the after the rebuild... is 150-175 possible.. and with the turbo... 225-250?
note... i want about 10psi of boost

^^Werd and a half. Reiko hit the nail right on the head.

Don't buy anything for a USDM D15. Swap it out for a D16Z6 or D16Y8, depending on what year car you get. If you want to stay slow, get a four door. If you want to be quick, get a hatchback. A coupe will put you pretty much in the middle. .

dude they are almost the same. get what ever you prefer. we are all going for speed. 4 door is sex. it ways almost the same and i like it alot. hatch just makes me go limp.

If you want to be fast and in a 4 door, buy mine. Put in a new set of pistons, don't let a certain someone from California come out to tune it and crack all your pistons and the head gasket, then go race Corvettes all day long in a sleeper 4 door.

:)
