well i dont have the pics yet but i just helped pull a blown type r. spark plug tips broke off into the engine and did some damage to just the piston tops and the bottom of the head. no damage to the cylinder walls which i thought was a little odd. when we pulled the head the cylinders were filled with oil? i know i dont have the pics up but do you guys think the motor can be rebuilt? i couldnt find any major damage like broken valves or bad scaring on the walls to say its toast.

pics when the owner sends them.

if there is no cylinder wall damage it can definitely be rebuilt.

resurface the head, get a pnp done while youre at it. get some new pr3 pistons and call it a day. might wanna hone the block just to be on the safe side though.

spark plug tips dont just fall off they melt off do to lean/very hot cyl temps this car didnt hapen to have nitrous on it did it

unless the'yre Autolite plugs....

believe it or not, the brand of spark plug you use greatly increases/decreases the chance of something in that neighborhood fucking up.

NGK's FTW

but as far as it being rebuilt, unless there's any cylidner wall damage it can definitely be rebuilt fairly easily...

yeah, its almost like using bosch spark plugs in a honda. just dont do it. NGK or Denso are the only two plugs that belong anywhere near a honda.

so funny he was using autolites lol

he has had the car since 2000 and no its never seen forced induction or nitrous. you guys are right though, he doesnt care about the car thats why he offered it to me with the blown motor for 5k. i didnt have the 5k so my future brother in law purchased it. im now trying to help him decide whether or not to re build it or get a new motor instead. i cant get the previous owner to send me the pics of the damage but i really hope it can be rebuilt that way money can be put towards higher end parts and upgrades.

the block looks good the only concern i have is the head really, it has lots of pits on the piston tops and in the combustion chamber on the head. like someone took a nail and just hit it all around. valves are untouched though??

thats the plan, after that i will probably come back here for recomendations for the build. i already have a list for him but first things first we check the motor out.

wait a minute i thout that that hodas came with ngk and it says on the top of the hood to use ngk some people cant read or dont listend well like my spelling

That's because autolites are garbage. Not being a douchebag or anything, but your buddy is a complete MORON for using autolites. The problem with autolites is the tips break off, and cause EXACTLY what you're describing. Pits/nicks in the pistons, and no noticeable damage to the valves...because the plugs literally fell apart.

If there is damage to the pistons, even if it's only the piston heads, do not reuse the pistons. Sharp edges, nicks, dings, etc. will more than likely cause hotspots, and only cause further damage to the motor. Pretty much what happens with that, is that because the sharp edge of the nick/ding/whatever is thinner than the rest of the piston, that particular spot gets heated up a lot more than the rest of the piston, and causes the air/fuel mixture to ignite before TDC, which pretty much works against the piston and will cause TONS of problems, including MORE engine damage.

I would go ahead and get OEM oversized pistons and hone out the cylinders just to be absolutely safe. Take the head to a machine shop just to make sure everything's kosher, and other than that you should be fine. The bearings/rods/crank should be fine, so total for everything you'd be looking at a few hundred bucks max on the repairs.

i had purchase a accord 90 4 door a few years back and it had auto lights and it was not running right couse i started running it hard so when i did an oil change i bought the bosh platnums and it ran wurst than with the autolights and thats when they told me to use ngk and i did not have any more problems and i will use ngk denso ar any jap plugg

well i have a good Q i will get a LS engine and would like to get a LS/Vtec wich head would be the best for the convo
