im not seeing any leaks but i tend to loose coolant

the exhaust doesnt smoke but does have a weird smell to it

should i pressure test the cooling system and if it is keeping pressure assume that it is the headgasket or is there something else i should look out for?

btw its the stock d16 on a 96 civic with over 150k miles dont know the history as i got it a couple months ago
 
i have 170,000 miles on my modded d16 and my headgasket doesn't leak. i would check your oil like he said just in case. also you could put a piece of cardboard underneath your car and leave it for a while and check to see if there are any spots on it. coolant doesn't dry up quick but it could be hard to tell if it was just losing a little bit at a time. the cardboard would absorb it and leave a dark spot.
 
Namely the HG. A leak in the coolant system would be noticable - just look underneath your car. If it is the HG, its not that bad of a job to do, or have done. The HG on my old D15B7 went exactly the same way - slow leak without drama.
