im gonna install a d16y8 motor in my 91 hatch...my question is will a 89-91 si trans work with this motor? and what kind of ecu and distributor will i have to use?? and what kind of other parts like starter, alternator, and stuff will i have to use?? will i have to get the parts for a 89-91 hatch or the 97 d16y8 motor??

Yes, the 88-91 Si transmission will work. The ecu and distributor depend...easiest thing for you to do would be to convert to OBD1 and use a P28 ECU and OBD1/newer D-series VTEC distributor. If you get a complete Y8 swap you can use that distributor with an OBD1 ecu. Whichever distributor you go with, you'll have to wire it into your stock harness. You will be able to keep your stock starter/alternator. The only other thing you might run into would be your injectors, and your best bet is to keep your stock injectors (if it's already a multi-point civic). All D-series injectors are the same size, and it will save you wiring to just keep your stock OBD0 injectors. You'll use your OBD0 mounts for the swap, and you'll have to keep the driver's side motor mount bracket that bolts onto the block from your stock OBD0 d-series.

watch out usin p28 on y8, engine will run fine, but ignition timing will be off no matter what you do, y8 cam gear is indexed differently than z6 cam gear.
