Mid-life Crisis Swap
I see various threads about what will fit. has anyone summarized this?

What are my choices?

I currently have (I think) A stock radiatior for a DX EG hatch. The inlets are of a smaller diameter than the hoses coming off the B18 Block.

The solution currently is a smaller diameter hose inside the oversized hose with a clamp cinching around both.

I have a leak, (small) havent yet decided if it is the hose junction or the radiator itself.

If it is hoses is there a better stockor aftermarket hose that fits?

If it is the radiator, what are my choice for replacement, and what if any modifications do I have to make to change to something more optimal?

will it bolt in directly..

just go buy a 99-00 si one the 90 bucks

or will I need to fab brackets? does it have the same shape and size/mounting location, generally?

I'm not to keen on the stock construction of plastic reservoir. Are there better makers of 99-00 replacements?

I definately want to buy new, since salvage yard radiators in Arizona are worthless. anyone have any good feedback on an online source?

Thanks

If I remember correctly, I put a brand new radiator in the car when I swapped it, so the problem is more than likely in my ghetto-fabulous radiator hose adaptors.

The 99-00 radiator would be a great choice if you want to buy a new one, and it'll bolt right in (no fabbing or bracketry necessary). You'll keep the same radiator hoses that are on there currently, only you'll remove my 'homemade hose shims' that are currently installed. Another option would be a Del Sol VTEC radiator.

thanks, will

I figured this would be up past your bedtime on a school night! (j/k)

I saw a set of hoses at inline4 for swapped civics, that should work shouldnt it, if the radiator is ok?

Yes, those should work perfectly...had I known those existed, I would've put those on there in the first place...lol

so how's she treatin' ya? I haven't seen you post anything in a while...

pictures? updates? turbo? sell it back to me? :p

veering slighty back toward topic...

what do you think of various coolants? I had really bad results running non-VW coolant in a wasserboxer. I wanted to stick with Honda fluids since they arent as rapacious about stuff at the dealer as the bastards at VW USA. Ive been runing prestone supposedly universearl coolant mostly because Im leaking and i can get it anywhere.

Coolants don't make a damn bit of difference to me. When it's not cold, I run straight distilled water and WaterWetter, and in the winter I use cheapo WalMart 50/50.

I just got the hoses for the gsr when i did my swap, used my stock radiator and put some super coolant in and its worked just fine.

None of the solutions were exactly right.

Honda didnt have either an eg or a 99-00 si radiator in stock, and I didnt want to special order.

Autozone had a 99-00 si radiator (supposedly) in stock,it seems to be exactly the same as the original EG radiator. The inlet and outlets on the radiator seem exactly the same as stock. Same thing at Reith and Napa.

I ordered the "swap" hoses from Inline4 that were supposed to be specifically for a LS or GSR in an EG. They lineup fine, but since both ends are exactly the same diameter, I knew either they would be too tight on the engine side or too loose on the radiator side. Since they were genuine Honda hoses in original bags with part numbers I figured they werent swap specific, they werent going to be exactly right.

SRD says to use 95 del sol VTEC hoses. The ones they had at Auto zone are right shape, right size for radiator, wrong size for engine end (too tight to get on).

The guy at Napa was the most helpful, he dug around and found a hose I could cut that had the right bends and the right large and small ends to fit for the top hose.

I finally gave up on an exact fit after 4 hours of various stores and settled on a cheap auto-zone radiator for a 99-00 SI (it seems EXACTLY like what I had), used the Inline4 hoses and used a screw-type clamp to close the last 1/8 to 1/4 inch gap in the hoses.
