I've heard some people say that Pride has the better fighters. I wouldn't know since I don't really watch Pride. I was looking at the rules and such for for Pride and they are pretty much the same as the UFC except for a few things...

Rules
PRIDE's rules result in similar styles of fighting as seen in Ultimate Fighting Championship in the United States. Unlike the UFC, where matches take place within a cage, PRIDE holds its bouts within a boxing style ring. Other notable differences between PRIDE FC and the UFC are:Weight classes
It should be noted that PRIDE Fighting Championships does NOT divide their fighters with weight divisons, a fighter may be booked to fight an opponent of any weight class. Weight divisions are only used for championship title bouts to crown a champion among that weight class.Match length
Most PRIDE FC matches are broken down as follows:

Round 1 - 10 minutes
Round 2 - 5 minutes
Round 3 - 5 minutes
There are two-minute breaks between rounds.
Pride Bushido matches (lightweights and welterweights) consist of only 2 rounds (10 and 5 minutes)

Now going by the above information, I'd say that Pride should have the better conditioned fighters since they have to go 10 minutes in the first round and they also fight any fighter of any weight but at the same time Pride has what some may call "dirty" fighters since Pride allows kicks and knees to the head of a downed(sp?) opponent.

Also, I hear a lot of political bullshit that goes on in the UFC and Pride and that's what helps a fighter choose what organization he wants to go to. Such as pay rate and other factors.

I remember watching a Pride fight between Chuck Liddell and Quiton Jackson and Quiton whooped Chuck's ass. I don't understand why Quiton Jackson wouldn't follow Chuck and come to UFC. I know Quiton Jackson and Tito Ortiz are friend's and they train with each other.

So what do you guys think? Maybe there is something you guys have heard or seen that i'm missing. Discuss...

I'm a UFC guy too, as you can tell from my avatar lol but I just want to see what people have heard or know what makes these 2 organizations that much different and/or better from one another.

This thread actually makes me want to research more... I DVR "tivo" every episode of The Ultimate Fighter as well...

I prefer UFC. Got to love an elbow to the head on a downed opponent.
That's one thing I don't understand about Pride, they will let you kick or knee someone's head while they are down but not an elbow to the head or face at any time? What if you are in their guard? I guess they want only punches so you can get caught in an arm-bar easier :shrug2:

all you have to do is watch pride to realise that theres much better fighters there. besides chuck, theres alot of people from the ufc who have gone to pride and not done well at all.
whereas every fighter that i can ever remember going from pride to ufc has dominated in ufc.

pretty much the only ufc fighter that has done decent in pride would be phil baroni, maybe jens pulver. thats all i can think of off the top of my head.

alot of the fighters are from around the world. pride is f-n huge in japan and everywhere else. ufc is only big in america. that might be one reason why pride draws fighters. ufc also pays shit compared to pride. pride tourneys draw crowds of up to and over 50k people, whereas ufc crowds are a fraction of that. in japan, pride is like the nfl in america.

ufc is what got me into mma years and years ago, but as a fan of mma and being someone who watches multiple organizations, its not big secret that pride has much better fighters.

like i said in another thread. i cant think of a single title holder in ufc that could win in a match with a comparable pride title holder. id put money on every fight without even looking at the card.

the IFL is pretty cool, if anyone has ever watched that. its kinda setup the way the old ultimate fighters were. fighters are split up into teams, but they have uniforms and team logos kinda like the nfl. then the teams compete against one another in individual fights to determine the best overall team. it comes on FSN and is worth checking out.

i can not find the numbers for the pride fighters but i have heard pride fighters get close or more then 800k a fight!!! yes $800,000. then check this out

then you tell me why people would not want to fight in pride lol.

i hate, HATE the boxing ring that pride fight in. i think you should be able to knee in the head while the other guy is down and also strike down with an elboe when you on your back. right now in the us ufc is more comercial then pride and its just easyier to get into seeing all the time. i'll let you know witch one i like better when im fighting in them both.

last time rickson fought in pride they paid him a million oO
what do you train in to be fighting at that level?

i do sambo, jiu jitsu, and muay thai. ive had to slack off though cause i got too much going on, but hopefully ill get back into it soon.

ah I see... maybe I get drawn in to the UFC drama since they advertise a lot more then Pride does. Plus, the actual Pride fights I have seen were all pretty boring, maybe because I didn't know the background of any of the fighters.

Wanderlei(sp?) Silva was fighting for the UFC a while back and he got his ass kicked by Vitor Belfort. Silva also lost to Tito Ortiz a couple years ago, I think it was UFC 25, that was back in 2000 so it's not too long ago. Also, I think it was a split decision so they should fight again.

Anyway, I think it's unfair to say that the Pride Champions will beat any of the UFC Champions simply because every fighter, in each organization, is getting better and better, and a fight is a fight, anything can and will happen. But I do agree that Pride has a higher number of talented fighters than the UFC does.

You still doing your Muay Thai? I haven't been doing it since high school (so about 6 years) and I want to get back into it real bad but with having to work nights and watch my son during the day while my girlfriend is at work makes it kinda hard to find time to do anything like that. Oh well, when my son gets old enough we will be doing Muay Thai together :)

UFC is mainly based in America while Pride is more internationaly acclaimed. The Pride fighters are much better than the UFC fighters - they get paid more, thats why.

Some of the greatest fighters have fought in pride - Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock, Frank Shamrock, etc. . .

you forgot the best fighter ever... Bas Rutten :D

fuck yeah! el guapo is the man!

and b16, vitor belfort came from pride too :p

i could make a long list of names of pride fighters that could dominate ufc unquestionably.

i havent been doing any training for a few weeks. i watch kids during the day and work at night. on the weekends is the only time i have for family and the only time i get to play warhammer, so its hard to squeeze training in there.
i might be getting a new job and if it works out ill be training about 3 days a week.

Didnt old school UFC allow elbows to the head until that guy got knocked out from it and ended up half retarded?

I've been watching UFC lately and so far I haven't seen anything really exciting. I've seen fights between 14 year olds that are more entertaining. I'm hoping tonight will be worth the time to watch.
If you're talking about TUF, tonight I think Matt Serra is fighting Shonie Carter. Should be a very good fight. Hope Matt whoops his ass.

TUF = the ultimate fighter. it is UFC ;)

oldschool ufc didnt have any rules. no gloves, no weight classes, no holds barred. when they were forced to be sanctioned like boxers is when they got all the rules.

oldschool pride was alot different also. no weight classes, no set rules for every match, no set round times from match to match, etc

no, what I mean is they seem to have jumped back and forth. Vitor was with UFC, then he went back to Pride, now he's back with UFC...so I don't know what the big deal is...maybe it is all about money lol

oh, I so wanna see Rampage kick Chuck's ass again but this time I want to see it happen in the octagon.
