I just thought I would share my recent tune-up in case some of you were curious maybe about brands or types of plugs, oil, etc. I know for most of us a tune-up is simple and a no brainer but maybe not for all. The need for a tune-up arised when I installed a set of used 2000 Type R camshafts in my lsvtec consisting of a stock block and a GSR head, USDM Type R header, AEBS manifold, Chrome.

The parts I purchased: $90 roughly.

NGK IR spark plugs $40
Oiltite magnetic oil plug $3!!!!!! for all you guys that spend $25- and up from spoon, and pwjdm etc.
Mobil1 synthetic 15-30 $35
Mobil1 oil filter $10

So far these are excellent Spark plugs just make sure you gap them because they were supposed to be pre gapped but were about .012 off. The gap should be .052 but was set at .040. The magnetic oil plug was a nice piece for such a little amount. I can always trust Mobil1 products and suggest them to anyone looking for new oil products.

The motor.

My little helper (Zeus) that really didnt like sitting on my motor lol (motor was not hot). He is a Rat Terrier if anyone was interested.

The motor feels excellent but needs tuning and a new crank pulley which is actually on the way (oem ITR). As well as a reprogrammed chip from phearable.net who I also highley suggest. I make a long commute to work now so I really get a good feeling of how the car is running and since the changes it feels smoother then before. I make my oil changes within limits so I wasnt really due for a bit but with the new cams and a 31 mile drive each way to work I thought it was time.

i thought those plugs were supposed to be gapped at .040. Standard honda spark plugs are supposed to be 1.0mm (.0394)

So im pretty sure they were right.
 
yeah, helms says 1.0-1.1mm (.0394-.0433in).

Just seems weird, not saying your wrong. maybe iridiums are supposed to be gapped differently.
 
If you are going to use that oiltite pan nut i advise you dont because i installed it on both of my cars and oil is leaking from that nut i has put on. the spoon is way better. and also arent you gonna do a full tune up? belts, plug wires, fuel filter, etc.?
 
did you use an oil pan washer instead of the plastic ring supplied? for about .98 you can buy a pack of like 10 which will allow no leaks like mine. i did my lsvtec swap about 4 months ago and added all new belts, hoses, fuel filter so no need for those.

i really dont see how the spoon could possibly be better, same thread pitch, same idea. its not like they are using some alien grade bolt or something.

oh i used the metal honda pan washer that you normally use. it doesnt leak with the plastic one?
 
no im saying i used oil washers instead of plastic like it came with. i have had no leaks at all so you might want to take a look at your pan itself.
