Hi my name is Rich and I own a 1989 Crx Si and the car wont shut off. I started it the other day and i went to shut the car off and the radio and the interior lights turned off and i could take the key out of the ignition. But the car still sat there idling. What could it be?

was the car turbod. dose it have a turbo timer.
did you just buy it or have you been the owner.
what mods have you done. any and all info helps

i am the third owner of this stock crx and i had a headunit put in by circuit city and then that night i drove it home and when i got there it wouldnt shut off. I went back to circuit city then next day had them take everything out that they did and it still wouldnt shut off.

it sounds like the cars is getting an ignition feed from somewhere when it shouldnt be

well the power to the head unit is spliced into the ignition wire but when the key turns off the power to that cuts off. shoudl i splice it into the acsessories power wire?

yes, head units almost always need two power sources, one for memory, it should be always on, and one for power, this should be a accsesory feed, so that when cranking the car can get as much power as possible by turning acses off, sometimes they need a park light feed as well for backlights, if you are replacing the head unit it should already have a accesory feed in the original harness and possible a b+, if not you should get the B+ from a relible and close source , and always fuse it, there should be no reason to get a feed from any where else except maybee your lights

ok what the hell would he need to hook his lights up to for a radio. if it were me i wouldn't listen to a thing the kid above me said, it doesn't matter if you hook it up to ignition or accessory. with that bein said i can only assume that the harnnes had been cut out that is why circiut city had to wire it to the ignition. check to see if maybe there is an ignition and a constant wire that are close to each other that may touching keeping the car running.

actually alot of stereos need to be hooked up to your lights. this is so when you turn your lights on, and therefore your dash lights, the stereo knows when to turn its display onto night mode, so it can be seen in the dark.
stereos and other auxilary devices that are not nessesary to run the car should be hooked up through accsesorys, thats what accesorys is for.

NO, NO, and more NO!!!!!!! That could be taken COMPLETELY the wrong way
How to Install a Car Stereo - eHow.com

^^^^^^^^^use this!!!!!^^^^^^^^^^

FIRST, if you had it installed. YOU paid bucks for someone else's fuck up. How does that make you feel. Take it back, Bithc loudly and bitch often, and bitch so that lots of people in the store hear you. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to fix your stuff.

SECONDLY, the ONLY wire that EVER gets hooked up to ANYTHING!!!! at all to do with lights.... is a dimmer wire. What it does is takes an INPUT voltage, (not output) and uses it to dim the display when you turn your headlights on. This is an attempt by the manufacturer to mimic what some stock decks do. Has absolutely NOTHING to do with headlights!!!!!

So, this tells me that at LEAST 2 things were done wrong. There's a little thing in the industry of installation called transferrable warranty. Take it back and tell them, "This deck was installed here and it's not done right. You guys need to to fix this." Play dumb about stereos until you need to make then look bad in front of their manager. Having worked in a similar retail outfit, I KNOW that if you bitch.... they don't want anyone to know about it. ;)
IT DOES NOT MATTER if you are the second or third or 15th owner..... most reputable shops have something called "LIFETIME WARRANTY" on their work.

So, hope that helps you out in getting things righted

I'm starting to wonder that myself. Last time I checked, you had to have MECP (Mobile Electronics Certification Program) Maybe that's become obsolete to make way for cheap hired help^_^

im not shore about mecp we have a different system over here. to be a quallified auto electrical fitter you have to do 3 years of tech and 4 years of aprenticeship, this training is not audio instalation specific but covers the whole electrical side of cars. batts, alts, starts, sparks, wiring shorts, wiring mods, spots, trailer lights, security, central locking, audio, diagnosting engine management faults, heating venting air con probs and anything other that the customer wants done electrical. there are a number of ways of going about putting a stereo in you have your way and i have my way they may not be the same but the important thing is it is done properly. iwas trained by two tradies with over 35 years of experence and i have not had a stereo iv done ever come back.

That's nifty, but I don't think Hondaswap is currently accepting resumes^_^

well i would ask for my money back if i was you cause whoever trained you should obviously not be workin on or anywhere near a cars elecetrical system

ya the head lights of a car have a50 amp fuse under the hood for a reason (they don't want people fucking with them)

If by lights you mean a dimer signal from the cluster then ok.
do it properly find a good switched signal and tap in use an independant ground wire. And run a wire to the battery and fuse it for constant power.
