Wagon guy
Hi all,

I recently bought a '90 civic station wagon with a bad transmission to use as a commuter. In checking local junkyards I'm coming up with a $250-$300 price range for a 5 speed box. Not too bad, but today I find a friend totaled his '90 Integra and will sell complete for $250. A lot of questions come to mind, like:

will '90 teg trans fit the '90 wagon?
or will whole eng/trans fit?
do I need to back up and look for a civic?
what transmissions will fit? does it matter whether coupe/sedan/hatchback?

Cars are:
'90 civic wagon, 1.5l 5spd ...291.5K mi.
90 integra 1.8l 5spd

I browsed around the forums but got lost in all the prefixes and generation numbers, so I thought I'd ask here which forum to post in. (I'm not at all interested in high performance for this thing, just want a driver.)

Thanks in advance,

welcome to the site :)

the b18a trans from the teg won't bolt up.
yes, you can do the full swap, so long as your wagovan isn't the 4wd model.
you will need to do a dpfi-> mpfi wiring change (documented in the reference section) as well as the full swap with the mounts, shift linkage, computer, etc...

if you just want a driver, its not worth the hassel...

pick up any 89-91 civic/crx tranny. if you want uber gas mileage, but slower acceleration, look for an hf or dx/standard model (these are 4 speeds). if you want a little more pep, but a little lower gas milage, look for the ex/si tranny (these are 5 speeds).

i have an hf tranny on the cheap in SE TN

How cheap? I'm in Atlanta, traveling to Knoxville/Haw Ridge this weekend for a bicycle race. Is that anywhere close to you?

And thanks for the straight advice. I really don't want a hybrid. If anybody wants/needs that Integra lemme know, he'll probably have it hauled off for scrap this week.

bout 75$ its gotsome miles but it works fine. and if you take I 75 to knoxville i live 2 minutes from the interstate hit me back if your interested

Hey, Speedrx

Somehow I missed your directions message. Try again?

Here we are over 2 years later...

I finally put the Hf trans from speedrx in the wagon in May of '07, and slowly became a wagon enthusiast. I found a home on hondacivicwagon and contented myself with the stock d15b2, working on cosmetics.
Forward a couple years, I'm on my 4th wagon (still have 3, one's a parts car) The original$100 car now has 316K miles, smokes alot.

So now I'm lurking around here again, I've decided to do a swap. I know, I know I said I wasn't interested ^^. I just bought a '92 Integra, and I believe I have it all figured out... except the wiring- and i've been on here and other sites reading up. I'll try not to ask the dumb questions! There's tons of great info here, thanks!

sweet car.

i like how you have been a member for 2 years and have 5 posts. lol.

edit: after taking a second and third look. i almost want one of those now.

Thanks for the welcome. I didn't mention above that the original car now has an EX trans., but still dpfi...that's the one getting the transplant.
The darker gray one is my wife's, It's bone stock, I just built the D15b2 600 miles ago. It got 35, 36 mpg its first two tanks : ). Needs a transmission, it pops out of reverse and wants to grind in third. I have an Si box that I won't be needing for the Bwagon, and also the mpfi setup i was gonna use on mine, so it'll be getting a little love, too.
