Engine Swap Question

I currently own a 1999 Honda Civic LX, and am looking to do an engine swap. My first question is, can anybody tell me what OBD my car is, because if I understand it right, doing an engine swap that has the same OBD is much easier. The second part to my question, is what engine would be an easier swap into my car. A B16A2 out of a 1999 Si, or a B18C1 - B18C3 out of an Integra? I am looking to do a swap that won't be too hard to do considering I plan on doing it in my garage. Any personal input or advice is appreciated.

you have a obd2 and yes the 99-00 si will be the easyest but the b18c is only mabe a half percent harder

Would the mounts for the B18C be only slightly different from the B16A2? If the swap is not much harder, and I can get an extra 20-40 HP out of the engine stock, then I'll do it.

well if your gona stick with a b series the mounts should all be the same

ahhvtec, thank you for answering my somewhat "Noobish" questions in a respectable manor. I really appreciate it. One problem I've found, is that I have searched ebay motors for B16A2, which came from the 1999-2000 Civic Si. However, on most of the B16A2's for sale web pages, they say that they are from a 92-95 JDM Honda. I'm not sure if this would affect OBD #, because if I end up buying an engine from ebay, I do not want to end up with an OBD 1 one engine, while my car is an OBD 2 car. So why are people labling the engine from a 1999-2000 Civic Si as a 92-95 motor? Was it used in Japan during that Civic era, or is it just someone typing info that they do not know?

Please note that the information of the B16A2 being from a 99-00 Si I got from this site's engine code data sheet, listed in another forum by pissedoffsol

just order from a place like h motors i wouldnt buy a motor from ebay with h motors you get a warenty and good custmer service, and its real easy to convert from obd2 to obd1

So you are saying that I should order from some sort of established JDM engine importer. Also, it really doesn't matter that my car is an OBD 2, because it is easy to covert an OBD 2 car to an OBD 1 engine? So I could order, say engines from 92-95 cars, being that they are OBD 1, and still be able to easily install them in my 99 OBD 2 Civic? That's what you're saying, correct?

I checked out the H Motors you recomeded. The website is awesome, the prices look very good, the information and knowledge they have is near the top. They have a good waranty. So now I have, yet another question. With the B18 being out of my price range, at least for the time being, it looks as if the B16 will be my motor of choice. However, the H22 is priced very similarly to the B16. So my new question is, is the H22 a tricky install into the EK's engine bay? This would be my first swap, so I'm not looking for something that is mind-boggling hard to do. I know that there are B-series mounts out there for EK civics. Is there a company that makes mounts for an H22 to go into an EK chassis, and if so, are there any major mods that I must do to get the engine to fit and run properly?

they do make engine mounts for h-series into eks but it is a very involved swap and it is not a drop in like the b-series would be.

What do you mean as far as "involved swap"? Have you or one of your buddies either successfully completed or attempted this swap? The only reason I bring it up is because it has better power and torque than the B18, but costs around the price of a B16, that's all. I would be happy with a B16A2 (would like a B16B, but that is alot), just that the H22 makes better power and torque, that's all. If you or anyone you know has either done this, or attempted this, I would appreciate any input or advice. Just about any engine is better than the one in my car. I have the D16Y7.

you got the best year for a h swap the only thing you have to cut is for the new shift linkage, witch you will have to get also you will need a slim line fan, si radiator 90-93integra axles 90-93 accord itermedate shaft, accord fuel rail, and motor mounts

Thank you for the information. I'll have to read a bit more on the H22 swap, to see where and how much I can get the parts I need for, but thank you for the information thus far.

how much harder is it to put an h22 then a b16a in a eg hatch. if it is'nt that difficult i might get it.

Yes, go to Hmotorsonline.com because they have the best kits there, whether it just be the engine and trans, or if you need a complete swap kit. That's where I would go to. Good prices, Good customer support, Good warranty. Go there, and see what engine you'd like to drop in.
