I been breezing through your website for quite awhile now....Learning alot of interesting information. Im a noob to all of this but I finally got myself a project I can work on. I have a 1990 civic hatchback STD. I would like to do a motor swap (something cheap and easy) But I been noticing that ppl have been doing it on si's and dx's. I have the 4 speed tranny so I know Im going to have to get a different one. I have been looking at ZC motors. To make sure I got this right, they come from 2gen integra's....or the JDM crx si older ones. Well my question is could I just get a 2nd gen integra and take the motor and tranny out and put it in my car?

USDM 2nd gen Integras are the 90-93 models with the B18A1 engine - yes, you can swap the B18 engine and transmission into your STD hatch - you would need to buy a B-series mount kit and shift linkage from someone like Hasport - you would need to swap out your front knuckles/hubs in order to use the larger Integra axles - for just about any swap, you will need to convert your Dual Point Fuel Injection wiring to the Multi Point Fuel Injection wiring and add a couple of wires from the ECU to the Distributor - the ZC engines (SOHC and DOHC) are all JDM - there are no USDM ZC engines - the USDM 1st gen Integra had a similar engine to the JDM DOHC ZC (the USDM Integra is D16A1, which is only remotely similar) but it does not bolt into the 88-91 Civic/CRX - the JDM DOHC ZC engine that bolts into the 88-91 Civic/CRX is the one from the JDM 88-91 Civic Si and CRX Si

what would you suggest then? I would like to do a project...but has to be cheap and doesn't involve welding or anything major.........that sucks b/c I found a D16A1 eng here around 200 bucks

Do not try to put the D16a1 in if you dont want to do welding or major work.Just find a D16a6 and drop that in there. All you will need to do is convert from DPFI to MPFI.It will be best to lose the 4speed tranny and get an cable Si tranny.if you want you can do a "mini me" and put a z6 or y8 head on the a6 block and convert to obd1 and be a little faster.

I don't know to much but from what car does the D16a6 come from? I found some info on online and found out I could use the D16z6 motor. I meant use that just b/c I know there in US cars. I dont' have to have it shipped from japan. I can just find it in a junk yard. But I do realize I'll need the cable SI tranny. Is the crx and civic si's trannys the same?

The D16a6 is from a 88-91 civic/crx SI.Yes you can put the z6 in but you will need to convert to obd1 in order to have VTEC.As far as i know they are the same trannys.

Oh okay....I got it now, Is the D16a6 a good motor to n/a hp or boost? And what do they usually range in price?

Motor swap

The best and easiest swap would be a d16z6 vtec engine. All you would need would be the engine,p28 ecu, ecu jumper, wire harness from both cars, the std and the vtec. I did my own wire convertion following the directions I found on this site. Good luck.

D16Z6 swap

Go with a6 block and z6 head mini me build up. One ? is how much you are willing to spent MAX and we can help.;)

He wants a cheap and easy swap if he goes that route he would have to spend more more money buying all the gaskets and head bolts that he would need to do the swap. Not to mention paying for someone to do the mini me built up, and at the end that set up would give him more problems than the d16z6 set up.

Do Not Go With Cheap. If You With Cheap Expect Cheap Performance! And In The Long Run Problems After Problems And You Would Be Posting Help On Hondaswap! Spent Wisely!
