wow...thats nuts...talk about being patient with the investigation too...lol

My friend's brother might be able to go to those auctions(he's a sheriff here in Wake Co.)

Shows how boring Greensboro is since they have to go to other cities to find news, Charlotte/485(which is S. Charlotte) is about 2 hours away from there.

Police confiscated Ford Mustangs, Honda Civics, Acuras and Mitsubishi automobiles, many with new engines and transmissions. Some were stripped of seats, radios and air conditioners to make them lighter and faster. Police said the vehicles probably will be sold at auction.

The only problem I have with that is other kids will go buy these already modified cars, take them right back out on the streets and race them again.

I think the police need to take these cars to mechanics, strip them and sell the parts individually. Put some more money into the police/city treasury and make these racer tards wait longer to get their licenses after they get outta jail.

I don't see it mentioning them racing. I only hear mention in this article of people watching. And also, Charlotte was the one that was arresting people for Watching races.

Here is a slide show:

Police put brakes on street racing | 11/4/06

Also, we mustn't forget - my Civic is totally illegal in Hartford CT. I can NOT go into Hartford with my car. They have an actual "Arrest" warrant for "Imports, mostly Hondas and Nissans" with "Tinted windows and modified suspension and wheels" and "mostly the Hondas have swapped motors, and most of them are stolen".

Fucking people man, I'm totally pissed about this. Like 2000Si said: These guys built these cars with their own sweat and blood - Now the cars are being sold at auction - as if to say "Oh, You're ok, you're car is ok, we just feel that your car belongs with someone else"

I would FREAK.

hmmm....auctioning the cars? that is a really harsh law. i don't think they can do that here in washington, or any other state i've been in. I would like to see that law. I understand impounding the cars, but the state has no authority to sell them. If they are illegal enough to take and not let people have them back, then they definitely shouldn't be resold. they wouldn't resell 10 kilos of cocaine, so why do it with a car.

When they impound cars, the car becomes city/state property. The state owns it, they can auction it or crush it as they see fit.

that would be a pretty interesting law suit:

So and So vs. the State: Auctioning off "illegal" vehicles that were taken off of the street because the drivers were doing something illegal in the vehicle or the vehicle is modified to an extent that it is illegal to be driven, and the authorities are putting the illegal vehicles back out on the street...lol...

not that this would ever happen...cuz the person would lose...but yea...lol

they should strip the cars like 2000si said...if anything...at least bring the car back to stock and then auction it off...

I think it depends on the state. I know in OR you have a certain amount of time to do whatever they want you to do to get it back before it becomes government property. I think it also depends on the conditions of the crime that causes the impounding.

yea, there were some cities in NY that were implementing laws that if your vehicle was used in a drug crime they could impound and take posession of your car

ie: you go to buy pot, get caught and lose your car

so if you get it impounded for having a warrant or drinking and driving the state then owns your car? that isn't right. i still need to see the laws in black and white.

Maybe not in WA state, but here in Indiana. If a state pulls you over it's the states property, if Ft wayne pulls you over, it's their car... and if a county mounty pulls you over it's their car.

There's a Fort Wayne City impound lot right on the main drag between Ft Wayne and New Haven that gets packed once a month to auction the cars from Drunk Driving arrests, street racing, etc.

haha in fact, I was right in front of it when I got pulled over and got my last ticket. I was VERY surprised my car didn't get impounded.

I believe if you don't go to jail, etc... that you can buy it back from the impound lot before any auction though.

In AK it's legal to posess up to 4 oz of pot in your home. It's still illegal, to have it in your car, but when we got busted, they just took our smoke and told us to go home.
Fuckers probly finished off the sack after we left.

You defenitly can lose your car....depends on the crime, obviously.

If you're doing 140 mph on an interstate, you deserve to have your car taken away, if you have certain kinds of drugs, your car deserved to be taken away, if it was taken for a DWI/DUI, once again, you deserve it.

Even in my situation, which is far from swell, I stll agree with the law. I wouldn't want someone doing 140 past me, regardless if I was the guy who used to set his cruise at 125 like it was the speed limit.

It's legal to possess up to an OZ in your home, in Denver. Jersey, 50g's or less is a criminally charged misdemeanor, you get arrested, car impounded and given you aren't high or acting like a douche, you probably could get your car back the next day. When I was arrested by the staties out in Jersey, they impounded my shit and sent it like 30 miles away, the towing company charged me $190 for the tow and $400 for storage for the 4 days I was in jail, they wouldn't release it unless I was there too, which was complete bs since the car wasn't even in my name

well here in kcmo if they impound your ride couse it was stolen its theres and if you race you better pray you can get it back and in new york its the same thing. a civic was racing a viper in hunts point in the bronx and the viper got impounded and he had to pay a hefty fine the civic 2
