Ignorant import guy

so i bought a used turbo kit and it came with a turbo timer but no directions and i do not trust myself or anyone else wiring without directions or an illustration....the timer itself must me not a major brand...its an "ULTRA auto timer" and out the back of it it has 7 wires...4 thicker ones and three thinner ones...the thicker ones consist of the colors red green black and blue...the thinner wires consist of grey green and yellow...does anyone know how to wire this...or better yet will the timer work in this condition...i would eventualy like to get a better timer installed but for now im stuck with this...i have a 1999 civic ex...d16y8

just do a google search for a wiring diagram.

turbo timers are cheap, they are like $100. you don't HAVE to have it though either. unless you are at the track you won't really need it.

i turbo timer has nothing to do with tuning it. i do believe i said you dont' have to have one at all.

Don't listen to this kid....if you do you'll bne replacing your turbo pretty damn quick. Turbo timers arent necessary but are very very important. My friend has a twin turbo supra, and no turbo timer...however...He does leave his car running for about 5 minutes when ever he gets out of it and then goes and turns it off.
The basic concept of the turbo timer, is to allow your turbo to cool off properly when you stop the car, by feeding it a steady stream of fresh oil, and thus likely preventing coking of the bearings (gunk buildup). Most manufacturers of turbo-charged vehicles recommend idling your car after you get where you're going, for at least 30 seconds, longer if you have really been boosting it. A turbo timer allows you to stop the car, park it, remove the key and lock the door, while a small timer device keeps your engine running for a pre-set period of time. THIS IS WHAT PROLONGS THE LIFE OF YOUR TURBO!!!!!!! If you dont use a turbo timer...at least let your car idle after you get out of it.....If you listen to that other kids advice your mess up your turbo! You might as well use the timer since you have. Read up on a turbo timer and ask anyone!!! THEY ARE VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you for contributing that to the forums. weird how you see all those cars with stock turbos that are running the original turbos with 100k on em.....

sounds like someone read import tuner yesterday.

ok assclown, if they are so damn important, why aren't they installed on every sti, evo, talon, and eclipse. because most people don't make there cars hot enough to worry about it. if you are road racing, then yes, i recommend it. but you can live without it. odds are you won't ever need it. i have owned and currently own turbo'd cars. i have a killer sr20det and don't race it enough to need a turbo timer, and my turbo is fine.

thank you. these damn noobs trying to roast people when they don't know what the hell is going on.

My best friend has an S14 with the SR20DET and he has always used a turbo timer, and I'll trust his word over yours considering he just graduated from University Of Northwestern Ohio in High perrformance Automotive...he knows a shit load about turbos...your right....they arent the most important thing...but ots the smart thing to do!!! and for 100 bucks...its worth it!!! and by the way - why the hell would you own an SR20DET and not drive it hard enough to have to cool the Turbo??? everyoine I know that owns a turbo car runs at least a little if someone pulls up against them.....Im not saying aturbo timer is needed for everyone....im saying one thing....ITS VERY SMART TO INSTALL ONE!!!!!! Why take the risk of not having one? my whole though on boosting a car...is "regardless of how much psi your running....build your motor like its going to be on a drag strip...that way you dont have to worry about blowing seals, melting piston rings, blowing your turbo, or even worse blowing your motor...

if you beat-run your car all the way until the time you park, you're an idiot and need a turbo timer.

if you take a cool-down lap, or drive sanely and not much in boost on the way to where you're about to park, sit there for 10 secs before shutting it off and you'll be fine.

we dont "beat-run" our cars...we drive normalls...maybe 10mph over the speed limit....however, in this t own, on a friday night...really the only thing to do is to drive up and down the main strip...and at some point down that strip...your going to end up hitting a stop light next to some punk who thinks his car will beat yours...so you run them for about 150 ft to the next light...bearly hitting second gear...we arent running the cars all the time...just once or twice during the night or something when someone next to you is being cocky.

running the car forever is fine... just, when you go to park, let it idle for 10-20 seconds before you get out.

lol, okay, I can agree to that...but you have to admit...if you already have a turbo timer...its a good idea to utilize it
