Sorry, I know this is actually a hybrid question, but I seem to get little response in that forum. Anyway....

I'm switching from a d16y7 to d16y8 motor. I believe the exhaust won't line up to the new manifold ... & buying a cat-bac system only solves half my problem. I've gotten a few quotes for a complete exhaust & I feel the quality doen't match the cost. If I remember, OEM is stainless so maybe I need to start looking.

What are my options for a complete Cali. legal exhaust, any advise on this pleas?

well for starters, the oem d16y8 exhaust manifold is not stainless steel. it came with the same cast iron log as the d16y7, as such you shouldn't have any problem with the exhaust, its the same. d16y7 manifold will bolt right onto a d16y8 head and vice versa. you are in an ek right?

Sorry, I need to specify, not the exhaust manifold ... exhaust piping, the rinky dink 2 inch one ...
I have a 150k on my 99 civic (EK) exhaust system & nonvtec d16y7 motor. The cat/manifold is bad ... these things crack (lemon) & cost $$$ to replace. So, I'm installing a stock EX d16y8 ... & I want to make it totally stock appearing... adding, oh gosh, 19%hp thanks to VTEC.

yea it will bolt right up, but the new ex cat will be under the car witch is a plus if you ask me

....ahhvtec, yea you nailed my main purpose for the swap (aside from the bonus VTEC). I's lookin at another cat for a DX that costs about 1/3 the cost of my swap ... it's illegal in CA to change an exhaust system (ie. move the cat from the manifold to the EX locale).

Hindsight, I think can use what I have on the DX ... I bought the EX exhaust with the intention of replacing an aging exhaust with the correct version, & keep it looking stock.

glad i could help,,but is it still ilegal in ca if you buy a after market cat like a magnaflow one there supose to be 50 state legal

you are correct on that smog. I conferred with a couple of shops in the area, they recommended which will pass. I figure if it looks stock, & blows decent #'s, it'll be ok. Thx again 4 the comments.

I can't figure why CARB, SEMA, or another organization hasn't pushed for this loophole to be fixed ... I guess maybe, it's the OEM that get to make $$ on this one.

dont swap to a D16Y8..I have that in my '96 EX Coupe..it's not that great...127 hp....yea.....nothin great.....go to a B16 or somethin if ya have the $$

Cool, cosign on it NightCat.
I knows all 'bouts b motors ... it's a cost thing. I'm just tryin' to keep'er goin a few more years. Swap from one d motor to another is a piece of cake & will go unnoticed by my smog tech. The tranny has a lil' better ratio on 2nd & 3rd, & VTEC adds 19% more power than what I'm playin'.

Optimistically, I can hang on to it & use my new VTEC setup for a b/k motor in the future.

Woops, divisii I just swapped out my d16y8 from my 96 coupe.Lookin for a buyer. Complete swap for $300./engine/trans/shift link/axles/DC header(50 state leagal)Interested?

how many miles on it and is it still good and how much to ship to alabama,

180,000 on bottom end.Head has 400 miles it. I had it magnafluxed resurfaced and grinded valves.I burned a little oil, but still ran strong. If anything you can use the head.Shipping? Well I don't know the rate for that, I live in Orange County,California so........

96EKB18C5, way to be lookin out. Thx, I have it covered ... a complete d16y8/5spd. w/ 48,000 on the clock. I bought mostly stock parts for the install, so it'll appear OEM.

If you go to a reputable exhaust shop, they can mandrel bend the exhaust piping for a better flow. This is way better than stock and will cost about the same as any aftermarket cat-back.
