So i get home about 5:30 and I'm sittin there about to commence my chill out phase of the evening when my phone rings. It's my buddy Greg, he asks me what i'm doin; 'nothin'.

"Could ya come over and house sit with my wife? My house got broken into today, they stole about 4k in shit and the door was busted open."

So I'm sittin here at his house. They busted through the garage door with the freakin deadlock on it. Destroyed the door frame and all. Took his Xbox, a lot of DVDs (including their wedding dvd), his laptop, his hand gun, ladee dah. They tried to jack his DVD player and whatnot, but it was so interconnected that they gave up and grabbed what they could.

Fuckin jackasses didn't even notice his Allen County Sheriff badges sitting on the island in his kitchen.

My first thought was that it was someone who'd just got out of lock up (he's a confinement officer) and had a vendetta against him, but there were 3-4 other houses that got jacked into over the past few weeks around here.

Fuckin pisses me off, and it wasn't even any of my shit that got stolen.

Nobody ever said Joe Burglarface was intelligent, or observant.

And, for the record, somebody's gonna be in deep shit when they get caught.

Apparently it was two white males in a grey or silver car. So the police have some lead, and the Judge (also a city cop) got half a finger print off his door knob in the garage.

I'm just happy they didn't fuck with their dog, they jsut threw the IU blankent over her cage.

I hope it was a couple of stoned high school kids who'll try selling this shit on Ebay. I'm gonna be keeping my eye on it for the next few weeks.

When my friend's shop got jacked and he had 16k worth of parts stolen, the thieves stashed the merchandise in a storage unit a couple cities over. Almost all of it was sold to the thieves' friends and acquaintances on the down-low. They recovered quite a bit of it but they still haven't found the storage unit.

been there before. about 2 years ago. they took a ton of power tools, equipment, and shit like that. they stole my dads truck and used it to haul everything then torched the truck. fuckers.

Just got home now and got some food.

They had to run to the hardware store to get some wood.

His uncle hacked out the part of the door frame that was broken, shoved a piece in, screwed it in and put a new deadbolt lock, that's bigger than the previous.

Of course this is a temporary system. We have to fill in the backside of the door frame with some filler and put it in tighter. We were thinking about some sheet metal screwed directly to the frame of the garage.

That shit is going to take more force than one punk ass kid is going to be able to put on it.

I recomend all entry doors open out wards yes it can be a pain but witha sealed hinge short of using a saw for 2-3 hrs there not getting in

He doesn't have the money for that kind of conversion. Both their front and garage door have a storm door, followed by a giant metal door opening inward. The problem wasn't so much as to the door itself, but the frame surrounding didn't hold up. They ripped the molding off when they slammed the door open.

Your friend is a cop and they got his gun ?

OH BOY I see a shit storm on the horizon.

He's a confinement officer, he's not out on the streets patrolling. It was a 38 he bought for himself, not a standard issue from the department.

He's still a professional. not sure about corrections in your state, but I know a corrections officer here (never lost his gun in any way) and a cop that did get his stolen (They stole his entire safe). The Cop had major problems at the department. The Corrections officer said he would lose his job, even if it was a personal firearm. Even if it was a rifle.

recently a police chief left his car unlocked around here. needless to say it had a shotgun, his standard issue 9mm or whatever it was, and the rest of the cop shit. yeah, it was messy. I think he lost his job because he was a jackass and let his car get stolen. if he was robbed, i think he would have been fine.

sucks ass that he got robbed, but.....
reguardless of what he does for a living it is VERY irresponsible to leave your weapon unsecured
it should have been in a gun safe... no excuses
the safe should either be so freaking huge and heavy that 2 people could not easily carry it out of the house... or the safe should be securely bolted to the floor/wall/etc...
first thing they teach you in ANY weapons course is "NEVER leave your weapon unsecured or in a manor that would allow an unauthorized person access to it"
if they stole his gunsafe then thats one thing... but from the fact that they were unable (unwilling) to take his DVD player due to a jumble of cables, i cant immagine they would have gone through the trouble of cracking a safe or figureing out how to get it unbolted from the floor...

this of course is all simply my oppinion... i could be wrong

Well, the best he could do at the moment was lock it in one of his drawers in his bedroom.

He has a temporary permit for the gun, but because it's not a full fledged permit he keeps it at home and then wears it at night when he gets home.

If he took it with him and locked it in his truck, then got caught with it it's a felony in Allen County.

Point being they looked through his crap and found then took the gun. He has a wife but no kids so I don't see any problem with it just laying around behind a closed door in his bedroom where it was.

Hey, E... wanna pony up the couple hundred for a decently heavy gun safe for him? He just spend 300 dollars on securing his home now that this shit happened.

Opinions aside, where his gun was in the house is a pointless arguement.

a good gun safe is going to cost well over $500. my mom bought one last year for christmas and it cost $900. those things are not cheap. just buy one of those motel safes and bolt it into the floor or something.

I don't see a problem with it hanging out either - but the theft of it means another illegal gun on the streets that's obviously in the hands of a criminal.

And a temporary licence ? What's this ? Can only carry it at night in his home ? Man .. that's the shit I'm fighting against. I think all people should have a gun on them at all times.

He has a temporary permit to conceal it ON his person while he is on his property for self protection. In fact, allen county not only condones, but auhorizes, confinement officers to do so. He cannot take it with him off of his property in any fashion though. City/County police will arrest for that felony offense.

The police have the serial number and pawn shops are required to update their lists on any weapons bought or sold.
