Hello everyone, I'm new here to Hondaswap. I drive a 96 Accord EX sedan and have done just mods to my suspension(not alot though) like a progress rear sway bar and polyurethane bushings.
Eventually I will do an engine swap but that's not until later on. I've been debating over whether I want to build a H22a or do a F22a(jdm dohc) motor before I start doing anything.
I'm going to build this motor to handle boost and I've been doing alot of research because I don't have money to waste.
I wish I had some pics but I don't but one day I will.
Well That's it for now. I look foward to talking to everyone here about the accord :) !!!

if you are going turbo keep the f22. it is a great motor to boost. if you want the dohc tuning ablility then just pick up an h22/h23 head and have it put on the f22 bottom end. that in itself will save you a lot of money.

Well....I was just thinking about buying the jdm f22 dohc engine and then I won't have to do the head swap.
I'm not sure which route I want to go yet because I have heard of people making up to 600 hp in their Accords.
I know in order to acheive that type of hp that there are alot of factors that goes into it and also it was done using a H22a.
I've also heard that you have to get the block sleeved(h22a) because it can't handle that type of pressure.
I've also heard that the f22 dohc has a iron sleeve in it already and that it can handle boost just with stock internals(only so much though).
I like that the H22a produces 190-200hp stock.
I also like that the f22dohc has more tourqe.
This is going to be a daily driver and I understand that once you rebuild & boost your engine it might not be as reliable that's why I haven't started with this yet because I need to do more research and talk to more people to get more Ideas of what I can and cannot do.
What I'm trying to acheive is to produce 480-500hp.
I'm tired of getting "dogged" by Mazda 6's, Ford Fusions v6's, Dodge Stratus, Dodge Magnums, etc.
I know I can go and buy another car but why get a car note when this is paid off already?!?
I'm not always going to have it boosted this much but my motto is "better to have and not need than to need and not have".

f22b isnt a bad choice....however the h22 can handle just as much boost as the f22.

the h22 does have some weak points (ring lands and rod bolts). the frm sleeves are "supposed" to be stonger than regular iron blocks but there isnt really anything out there showing comparisons in strength (that i know of).

the advantage to the f block is that because it does have iron sleeves you can put in forged pistons as where you cannot with the h22. you can buy better pistons for the h motors (mahle gold series) but they are still a cast piston and not forged.

f22b is def a good choice if you have the money

remember its not the boost level that breaks things....its horsepower

Hhhmmmmm????
So horsepower breaks things huh?!?
I was going to go all forged internals(if possible) because I was told that forge is te way to go.
The more I chat with you the more interested in going in the path least traveled.
I see in your sig that you have a JDM H22a but yet you sound very conviencing about the f22...why is that(no pun intended, just picking your brain)???
I'm still trying to weigh my options because I want to do a h22a swap but then here is the f22 sitting right under the rader and is a very good engine also...just no that much horsepower.

yes it is hp that breaks things not boost...for example

t25 turbo at 8 lbs may only make 240hp on the h22....it doesnt flow very much air but will spool quickly

now put a t3 60-1 at 8 lbs and make 290 only because it is much bigger and flows a lot more air...

if you are interested in learning about boost read the book Maximum boost by Corky Bell.

yes i do have the jdm h22....but when i bought my motor everyone told me that this was the way to go (3 years ago)...i didnt know much then...and im still learning. if i would have known then what i do now i would have kept the f22 and boosted it. me and a friend are working on a f22b turbo set up in a 97 accord. it will have a fully built bottom end and be using a holset ihi turbo. it is a good motor......espically if you want to go dohc instead of sohc.

i havent decided on a path for my car at the moment but we shal see

Thanks for the reference to the book.
Keep me posted on the progress of the engine.
Are you going forged internals or do you have something else in mind???
I'm definiately going to go the dohc route. I'll make sure that I don't kill my engine with horsepower....but I know that I'm going to need it.

well forging my internals is not on the slate because of the frm sleeves.

if i do go with boost then nothing to the block will be done.

however all motor plans are also in the mix....then some mahle gold series pisons will find their way into my motor...along with some goodies in the head
