ok.. a little while back i bought a GSR tranny.. after i got it on the seller contacted me and told me he may have given me a type r lsd tranny.. well.. i was told if i went and did a burnout both tires would spin if it was LSD.. well, both tires did spin for about 12 ft before i shifted.. so is this an LSD tranny or not.. because my old b16 tranny only spun one tire.. any info appreciated..

i'll try out the 80 mph in 5th on the freeway later and see what rpms its running at. .. GSR is at 4k and type r b16 is at 4.4k

the 2 wheel spinning deal isnt always right. I can get my regular trans to do a 2 wheel burnout if I have the wheel perfectly straight.

Goto a hill with a turn, drop a gear in the turn and get the tires lighting up around the turn. Look for the tire marks, 1 tire no LSD, 2 tires LSD.

um....you should be able to jack up the front. spin one wheel by hand. if the other spins forward also, it's lsd, if it spins the opposite, it's open.

Thats no fun :p
if you want a fun way to find out....jack up only one side. get one wheel off the ground, start it up and put it in gear. if the wheel spins, non lsd. if it doesn't do anything and your car violently jumps off the jack, now that would be a fun way to find out.

id go with get nick...just jack up the car, put it in gear and see how the wheels spin.

errr, his first post, not his second.

Lol way to make sure to clarify which method.....I could see the car just jumping around then sticky half way out of the garage

with the first one you don't run the car. you leave it off and just roll it by hand.

well.. i've heard if its an oem lsd then i'd have to pull the axles to see if its lsd..
you can just do the functional check. you don't have to take it apart.

Jack it up. Turn one wheel. The other wheel should turn the same direction with a limited slip. If it turns opposite, no LSD. Lower car back to ground. Drive away happy. :)

With the LSD on a FF car, you should still be able to steer while you burn out . . . there shouldnt be any torque steer either (oh wait, you have a honda ;)).

not necessarily, i have a tranny with a quaife, and mine acts like an open diff when doing this test. the easiest way to tell is to pull the axles out, and see if you can see through the tranny. if it has a bar across the hole, its an open diff, if it has an open hole, its an lsd.

yea, i know how to tell when the axles are out, but is there a way to determine for sure by doing anything else

this is why i stopped posting in the tech forums. i posted how to do it. it's ok though, just giving you shit.^_^ one wheel should still spin if you roll it forward.

Very true. Only clutch type LSDs will work with one wheel off the ground. Quaifes and the OEM LSDs will NOT work unless both wheels have some resistance when turning.

Do the "front end in the air and spin one wheel by hand" test. It's accurate, doesn't risk dropping your car off a jack, and is.... safe.
