Ok.. i know this is a honda site. But im having problems with my "other car" and you guys are the only people that know what your talking about. So here goes.

I recently just bought a 91 Toyota MR-2 na. It had been sitting for almost 2 years. It started right up after i changed the battery. But for like the first couple seconds after i start it, it has this knock.. After some oil gets into the engine the knocking is reduced to a pinging.. Sounds like it coming from the exhaust manifold.. and im just guessing this by the sound i think it would make but the valves are tapping too.. I gave it a oil change hoping for a quick fix but it didnt help.. I thinking its either a old belt and the timing is off, a knock sensor, or something. Im not a car whiz at all.. Thank you for your reply's..

:werd: to taking it to the shop. I don't think that valve lash is adjustable on those cars. My buddies 91 celica used shims. Take it to a shop.

I could take it to the shop but i dont have the money right now.. Thats why i made this post.. Anybody else got some suggestions?

Read It? Seriously. You have been given advice regarding the valve lash. Check into the manual regarding how to do it. This is a honda site. I'm sure there is an MR2 or Toyota forum that will have more knowledgeable people regarding Toyotas. We can't hold your hand through the internet. Crack the book open and start troubleshooting, and learning your car.
