Alright so, as some of you know, I run a 1996 Honda Civic EX with a D16Y8.

now, I wanna get goin on some upgrades but I dunno if it's worth it to upgraded my D16Y8 or save up and swap to a B16.

note, I'm a fan of Drift and Drag. however, due to FWD, I'd probablly stick to drag.

thoughts?

nah, swap it. if you turbo you will probably spend as much money on the turbo to get to where the b16 is stock so you might as well swap it and start moding the b16

well just me i had a coupe with a d16y8 turbo 7psi that spanked a sir2 in a hatch easy

NightCat, it's all about your goals, budget, & know-how.
There's lotsa upgrades for the either motors U mention. Upgrades not specifically rated to the d might be best (suspension, chassis, exhaust...), because then if you decide to go b, U can still use that stuff.

Unless U do internal work .. I wouldn't think about pushin the d much over 200hp.

If you're capable of funding a b or k swap, U should head for that.

Quick question, does anyone know if the flywheel, clutch and pressure plate for D16's fit all D16's?

I know that stuff has nothing to do with the engine and is transmission but does anyone know if it's different or a D16 clutch is a D16 clutch, thats it.

Just wanna make sure I dont buy some stuff and find it doesn't even fit my specific car.

a quick response would be really beneficial.

Hey if you do the swap lemme know what you want to do with the enigine bc im looking to buy a d16y8. What is the mileage on it?

D series:
Cheap to build. Can hold 450 + on stock sleeves with a block guard. Saves you the money of swapping. Get straight to boost. However, transmissions do NOT hold up and you will be destroying them. My roommate has completely trashed 3 transmissions so far in the last 7 months.

B series: A little extra money, but well spent. Take about 60% boost to make same horsepower as D-series (in other words you can make 300 hp on 12 psi as opposed to 300 hp at about 19+ psi with a D), and the transmissions will hold.

Personally, I say go B series. It'll save you in the long run bro.

I'll probablly sell the engine after I do the swap.

I have a D15B2 sitting around too, it had a broken belt though.

btw: it has about 80K on it, the D16Y8 that is.

sell your head and intake manifold (flows almost as good as a Skunk 2 on a Y7 head) to someone looking to do a mini-me setup.

sell your block to someone who blew theirs

and sell your tranny to someone who wants turbo and has an LX tranny because the EX gears are better for boosted D's.

I have a 97 Civic Ex and i just had a rod go through my engine block and i am searching like mad to get a new engine but i would like to keep with the D16y8 so there is little to no like little parts i need to buy and such. But i would give you $450 for thata + what ever it costs for you to send the engine to ohio...whenever you swap it that is. SO if you plan on selling it just tell me and ill buy it.

I'll have to talk to my friend, He and I bought the car together.

long story short, he was 18 and needed the extra money, I said "I'll give it to ya if the deed, pinks and title is in both names." and ta da :p

Ok that is fine just keep in touch with me what you want to do with it. Also is there like anything mechanically wrong with it? Im not sure if that price is right though considering idk what it sounds like, how you have taken care of it, and also what mods have been done to it.

to my knowledge the engine has no mechanical defects, it's actually a new engine. when I bought the car the honda 150 point used inspection clearly didn't cover oil so after about 3k the engine went bye bye so I had it replaced for another D16Y8 so actually...my gauges say 80K'ish but the actual engine I'm not sure how many miles, most likely less than that. maybe even in the 10's of thousands.

eitherway, the only modifications I run right now is an AEM Cold air Intake with K&N filters. besides that, those are the only mods.

I might be doing the swap after some further reading however.

Swapping the D16Y8 to a B16B would be the easy part, I'd just need to get a mount kit, however, I'd have to replace the tranny which for some reason only just hit me. from what I've read D and B series work together like a retard and jet aircraft. ( no offense meant to anyone with any kind of retardation )

That makes me insanely nervous. I kind of would like to know the actual mileage... if there is neway of doing it that would be great. Anyways, how much longer till you do the swap bc im kind of short on time?

Yea, I dunno how I forgot that detail before, however, the engine runs fine. no knocking, no noises, no nothing. just sounds deeper cause of the CAI.

as for when, well, I'm gonna call up my friend later today, and see what he thinks.

my problem is money..like it isn't for everyone eh.

well think of it this way...after you sell your engine to me then you will have over 400 dollars more towards the b16...I was thinking about getting one but then my engine blew a lil early so yea. If you can figure out the mileage that would further enthuse me. Well ill talk at you later. Im just wondering what all would be included in the deal...and how long would it take till i get the engine?

Yea..thats what I was thinking, I know a guy who can get me a B16 for $100 and all it needs is new piston rings.

however, my concern is where to get a new transmission cause there's no way in hell I'm gonna get a B16 to bolt onto a D16 Tranny, it just doesn't happen.

so..I was actually hoping for in the end that I'd get a better estimate of the miles on my D16Y8, sell that to your for $450 + shipping and then get the B16 for 100, new piston rings for about $40 and actually have gotten a better engine on my car and Made money by some miracle known as good luck :p

however..there's still that transmission problem.
