i got an 88 crx si that i bought an JDM B16A1 for... im trying to do the swap myself, the person i bought it off of had it in an 89 honda civic hatch... but i dont think it was an si, when i put the wiring harness on... there are no plugs for the vtec solenoid... do i just use a vtec controller and call it a day or is there a way to wire that into the harness so the ecu can control the vtec? p.s. i still have my si harness from the original engine if that will help. thanks

No, the female plug for the VTEC solenoid should have been sold to you with the engine. I assume you have a PW0 or PR3 ECU to go with your b16a correct? (BTW its b16a not b16a1 as there was no b16a1). Just wire the 2nd O2 sensor, knock sensor, vtec oil pressure, and vtec solenoid to the new ECU and you should run fine...as far as wiring goes at least. There are many webpages with the ECU pinouts for the EF b16 swap, try google if you don't already know where to wire to.

Oh, and since you don't have the plug, if you can't get it from whoever you bought the engine from, you can directly wire to the sensor, it'll just make it a PIA if you need to remove your engine again.

hey thanks a lot for the advice... ive talked it over with some people and i think im just gonna spend the $250 and let hasport do the work... its worth the money as far as im concerned

Um...its rediculously easy, but if you want to pay someone $250 to do 15 min of work you're more than welcome.

i was thinking of something else... i called hasport and all i need is the subharness they sell... i thought i needed something completely different... thanks

Are you staying obd0?
If you were going obd1, just get Boomslang's conversion harness. it comes pre-wired with everything you need to install a B16.(knock, iat, vtec, o2), with detailed instructions.

That way you can run an obd-1 ECU and have a better platform for tuning.

do the wiring yourself and save the money. what plug do you need i got 4 harnesses at my house, i can just send you the plug.

i just ordered the subharness from hasport, and got my original wiring harness back bc i think the harness given to me with the motor is for a 90-91 si... 1 of the plugs doesnt match up... so i think i should be ok now... im just going to stay obd0, after i get the swap done ill drive it for a few months, then pick up something easier like a 92+ hatch or somethin...

Should be that one that doesnt line up.
It's only used on D16a6's (Si's).
