i'm trying to decide whether or not to buy a ps3 or 360 and one of the key factors is the next format. "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!"

anyways, it's been compared to the revolution of beta-max vs. vhs. i don't want to buy anymore regular dvds because i will upgrade soon anyways. so....

what is going to be the next product and when will it prevail. i'm sick of waiting. what will the movie rental places end up choosing?

Where's the "I don't give a shit because Philips (I think) has developed a universal decoder" option?
it's right under PS3 has blu-ray and Xbox has hd-dvd and i only want to buy one console and not a regular hi-def player in addition to a console.

blue ray is the better format (faste frame rates, tripple layer) but hddvd is getting more backing.

beta was the better format and vhs won... so we'll see what happens.

i've been debating ebaying my whole DVD collection myself...

but the task of getting a list of evey dvd i own is a week-long project.

i feel you on the dvd thing. i just don't want to buy a ps3 and have everything turn out to be hd-dvd. what are you buying b?

i have no use for ps3 until GT5 comes out.
i have no use for x-box until sony merges with microsoft.

All that said, when the time comes, i hope blue ray wins out, as the companies i like are backing blue ray more than hdddvd. but who knows... if one fails, then they will probably move on to the accepted format.

All that said, i'm not buying either until 1 is standardized, or both prevail as dualing formats.

so you just aren't buying the next format until one is declared "official". i'm just wondering what "blockbuster" is going to carry.

it's because you know how to download movies and have fast internet.

i really don;t DL any movies. if i do, its to preview it before i buy it.

ondemand has pretty much stopped me from buying movies..

From what I've read, blu-ray doesn't look as sharp as hd dvd. Sony and blu ray ftl, they can all rot in hell.

Im wondering this too. thatguy, what articles (online? links?)?

I've asked for three blu ray movies this xmas in prep for my ps3 purchase.
