ok so ya my 90 hb its weak.
ive been savin my money for bout a year now and i got at least 3k saved up for any swap.
now i was thinking bout doin the minime swap cuz i hear its easy and all i need is y8 head, distributor, vtec controller, headers, and intake manifold for the car.
and all i have to do is swap the head and install the controller to start vtec.
Now also i can do just the b18b swap and not to worry bout the vtec wiring stuff but i have to worry bout changing from obd0 to obd1 or obd 2. Now who do that cuz i do prefer the b swap but what do i need to complete the swap
ECU, harness, gauge cluster, engine w/ tranny. and how come some forums they mention that you need a conversion harness if your already switchin ECU

The b16a swap is a good match for the ED chassis and costs a little less than $3000. You shouldn't worry about the wiring, its easy as hell. VTEC is 4 wires to run to the ECU, if you have to covert to MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection) its a little more, but not much. Is your car a STD, Si or DX? If its an Si your car is already MPFI, if not, then you'll need to either convert it from DPFI (Dual Point....) to MPFI or buy a conversion harness. There are many websites with instructions on how to do the DPFI to MPFI wiring so it should be pretty easy.

Another option would be dropping in a b18b and converting it to OBD0. Even if you convert to OBD1, it'd still be cheaper than a b16a. However, you'd have VTEC w/ the b16 and the option to later upgrade your bottom end to a 1.8L block if you wanted to go LS/VTEC.

For what you'll need...You won't need the engine's harness or gauge cluster. However you'll need motor mounts, a modified shift linkage and possibly new hubs (if your car is a STD). The reason people mention conversion harnesses is because they're an easy way to convert from OBD0 to 1 or add VTEC without having to do any wiring. However, if you're smart enough to figure out how to do the rest of the swap, the wiring shouldn't be an issue (I think harnesses are a complete waste of $$). Hope this helps.

Here's my 2 cents.
First of all, DX and STD are the same thing really. Both dual point.
B16's suck. Overpriced and underperforming. A d16z6/or lower milage d15b-VTEC, complete swap - no mounts required will costs you $800 to install. Install it with a Cable Si transmission. That's virtually the SAME power as a B16 will give you, without noisy urethane mount bushings, for a whole lot less money.
Forget mini-me crap, just get the whole engine. Lot easier, cheaper, same thing.
Wiring can be done by Rywire, or yourself. Take $200 off that cost if you can do it yourself.

Seriously. Go GSR or go d-series w/vtec. B16's aren't worth it IMO.

my car is a dx but my other question wat is std
STD Civic hatch is the base model with D15B1 engine and 4 speed transmission - has smaller front hubs, axles and brakes - has no tach, no passenger side mirror, no center console, no rear wiper, has black panel between tail lights - there are also other differences

DX Civic hatch is one step up from the STD with D15B2 engine and 5 speed transmission - has same hubs axles and brakes as Si and has a lot of things the STD doesn't have

Something else to consider is that running an RPM switch to activate VTEC doesn't change the fuel and timing maps that non-VTEC ECUs don't have in the first place.

Which is why, brownkobe8, you should switch ECU's.

Your car is obd-0.
When you switch do any engine swap, the best rule of thumb is to use the ECU that came in the car the motor goes in.

For example- If you want to install a D16Z6, you'll need to install the ECU out of the '92-'95 Civic EX or SI' s(Which is a P28 ecu- heres an ECU list and an Engine list, both found in the Reference Materials forum, here on this site.

The problem with that is, every Honda from '92-'95 is obd-1.
The plugs on the ECU are different than the plugs on your(obd-0) cabin harness, so you need a conversion harness for the ECU to plug up (and work right).

Boomslang Fabrication carries them.
They also come with VTEC, o2 sensor, Knock sensor, and IAB sensor prewired into the harness, so your 'covered' for ANY motor swap that you'll probably ever do.

So, just to clear it up, and give you a few options, heres everything you'll need to buy for the particular motor swaps.

B18, B20
(Non-VTEC motors)
Hasport's motor mount kit. (EFB1)
Hasport's custom shift linkage. OR cut/weld your own. (big hassle to some)
ECU(corresponding to whatever motor you use)
Wiring- You need to convert your harness from DPFI to MPFI. Search.
90-93 Integra axles/Intermediate shaft

B16, B18C(VTEC motors)
Hasport's motor mount kit. (EFB1)
Hasport's custom shift linkage. OR cut/weld your own. (big hassle to some)
ECU (corresponding to whatever motor you use)
Boomslang's harnesss(remember your a DX/STD.
90-93 Integra axles/Intermediate shaft

D16Z6, D16Y8
(VTEC motors)
Boomslang's Harness
ECU (corresponding to whatever motor you use)
(thats it!)

Hopefully that's cleared up some confusion and made it easier for you to decide.
Theres a LOT less work to stay with D series motors, but B series are a seemingly better platform to start off with.(in other words it takes a little more money/effort to make a high-HP D-series motor than it does to make a high horsepower B.)

if anything andrew is thorough. a zc, a d15b, or a d16z6 are the easiest swaps (in increasing difficulty) for your chassis followed by an LS Swap (B18a/b). The thing about LS/GSR/B16 swaps is you need different mounts. the zc, d15b and z6 all use your standard mounts. The z6 and d15b require a conversion harness. just let us know what you decide and well help you from there.

Boomslang doesn't do full DPFI to MPFI OBD1 conversions. That's hardly going to help this guy, that still leaves alot of wiring left to do that's over his head at the moment.
DPFI to MPFI OBD0 conversion (SI or B18a): Rywire - Online Store
DPFI to MPFI OBD1 conversion (d16z6): Rywire - Online Store
B16 & GSR are also there in this catagory. Same price: Rywire - Online Store
=) Andrew does provide excellent help.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention Rywire has stuff too! (hehe) ;)
