I have a 89' CRX and was wondering if a D16A1 fit into my car. What do I need to make it happen if it can happen.

Nope.. not without fabrication at least. I just tried that swap and the driver's side mount doesn't match up.

I'd say drop some coin for a black top (2nd gen) civic ZC. They're hella cheaper than B's and you still get a kick in the ass when you mash the accelerator. Or the SOHC VTEC zc. I went with the dohc non vtec though. Imho its a better motor for building, plus its way easier to install. They're both about $500-600 on ebay.

is it possible to jus move the location of the mounts on the engines them selves? and moveing stuff aroud like the power steering, honda has so many different combos like put the crx's driving mount to the d16a1 and relocate pumps accordingly using one of many brakets....jus wondering

1) this thread is old as fuck... are you searching for D16A1 and bumping all the threads or some shit because this is the 2nd one...

2) no you can't just move the mounts on the motor and you can not relocate the pumps because the belts need to run off the crank

ok i wasn't going to bother responding to this one too but i have to say why wouldn't this work the blocks tend to have the same holes same places different using. plus the braket relocating shit would work jus need to figure out what belt you'd need which isn't that hard.

you know what... you sound so sure of yourself, go try it... but i'm telling you right now it wouldn't work...if you don't listen, that's your fault.

One question though, if you decide to try and put a bracket in a different spot, how would you run the hard lines for, say, the AC?:eek:rolleyes: same applies to the power steering...ponder for a bit.

i'll make this one easy, i'd jus use the powersteering lines for an accord that my friend has with yet again damn near same exact engine except with the powersteering pump relocated to the front instead of the side :)

as for ac...i need it recharged anywayz i'll jus open a window, less weight too! haha

and im not so sure of myself thats why I'm here asking these questions and dealing with you, actually if your like many others your probably reading these same questions from me on several honda sites, its called researching, Deal wit it

and sorry if one, two, or three of your pleasant responses doesn't stop me from asking bout this shit

you're asking yet when you get the answer you try to go against it. Why even ask since you already 'figured' out what would work?

How do you even think putting the Power Steering pump more in front of the block would work? What belt do you know works when the 2 things it needs to connect to are off center?

the other thread was to be pissy, this one i was looking more at like a debate, and in no way have i said im right your wrong, at least not to me, but i was jus putting out there what i consider a reasonable idea, your nice and pleasant responces only got nice and pleasant ones back.

anyways why would they have to be off center? assumeing they could line up...i would move it forward to that location because on the integra its blocking where the honda mount could line up. and for so much info since the 90's i haven't found anything yet talking about rearrangeing mounts on the motor it self.

and im not looking for someone to jus tell me i'm right, you say im wrong so im jus saying why not pretty much, if you wouldn't of came off like a prick i wouldn't have either. the only reason i continue it is because i have the whole car sitting in my garage but its rusted out, so anyone need integra parts lol i know i know wrong area haha

you say i wanna be told im right
you say the only thing right is b18

sorry thats not always a suitable answer for everybody

damn this is long...but one last thought! Thank You! to both B16RacerN2NR and Blanco!!! you are the only two that did respond!!
~peace~

i understood that and heard that now im more interested in seeing how the zc fits in because if they're the same is it too much for me to hope the blocks might be too meaning that its possible the a1 hooked up the zc mount points would work?

only because then all i would need is the mounts the zc uses instead of the whole engine and extra one wasting space

I never suggested a B Series... you keep saying well if I do this and that it would work, I tell you no it won't, you proceed to try and prove me wrong. So why even ask if you already 'know'?

Anyway, you think I came off as a prick? lol keep bumping old ass threads and you'd get it much worse. Ask around, i'm one of the nice ones. You're in for a treat from some of the people on here if you keep acting like a noob.

Welcome to HondaSwap:D where the members have no tolerance for people who do not read the rules. yeah you did a good thing in searching, but that's only half the battle...you fucked up on the other half.

i won't worry about that too much, im sure i can find another honda site SOMEWHERE out there

the D16A1 is different from the 88+ Civic D-series. Different mounts, different transmission/axles, etc. The DOHC ZC is like the D16A1, but "modernized" to be like the 88+ D-series blocks.

its not bad, first good umm "debate" haha most of the idiots jus saying the b18 thing which i was bitching bout and thats it, but thats why i keep coming back wit shit cuz i don't like jus hearing no, it won't, call it hard headed or noob whatever, truthfully i know its more than you would like to do (but you didn't have to reply either) but if it was to be like oh it won't work because that block was never in a civic or anything close wit the same mounting points and would take total fabrication period, but when its only off a bit and wit all the hondas and acuras i see everyday with so many different setups its hard for me to swallow jus off center. shit i even included a picture of one and i know there is other bs involved always is but overall was this all really that hard to type? shit if ya quit the bitching parts you wouldn't have even typed that much lol

i left out a thought and instead of editing.... i keep coming back cause at least you guys seem to know right? i'd hate to ask some idiot that thinks all d-series are only SOHC and i have had that fight before!

the D16A1 has the driver's side mount on the front (toward radiator) of the engine, not on the end like the 88-91 (and later) engines - here is a picture of the D16A1 block with the mount on the front:

tegexhaust-side.jpg

you cannot put a mount on the end like all of the others because the D16A1 block has no holes in that location that would allow you to do it, as you can see in this picture:

tegblock2.jpg

the only things you can do are fabricate a mount that attaches to the front of the D16A1 and wraps around the end to get to the mount on the chassis or move the mount point on the chassis forward to where the radiator overflow bottle is - to use the D16A1 in the 88-91, you have to use the 88-91 CRX/Civic transmission - the only problem with this is that the A1 transmission attaching bolt locations on the block are not in the same locations as the holes in the 88-91 transmission - some of them line up, but not all - the 88-91 engines use a starter that has 2 mounting bolts - one bolts to the transmission itself and the other goes thru a hole in the transmission case and bolts to a hole in the block - the D16A1 block does not have a hole for this bolt - the starter on the A1 mounts different

the DOHC ZC for the 88-91 CRX/Civic has very little in common with the D16A1 - the only things that are the same are the valve train, the distributor, the cylinder sensor and the throttle body (these are only the same on 88-89 D16A1 and not 86-87) - everything else is different - the ZC is more like the D16A6 than like the D16A1 - all of the internals below the top of the block (except for the timing gear on the crankshaft) are the same as the D16A6 - the ZC block is different and isn't like anything else - the ZC head casting itself is also unique and is not like any other Honda head

see now i'll shut up! thanks for some major info! thats exaclty the thing i've been trying to figure out for certain! thanks for much more than a no! definately restored some faith in this place!
