Are your car mods reported to DMV or Insurance?

I was just wondering how many of us that have modified cars have these mods either listed with the DMV, or listed/covered under their insurance?

All my cars have original unmodded titles, even the ones I've changed the colors on.
 
The insurance on my Vega requires photographic evidence of my garage, fire suppression system, under-hood photos and VIN tags clearly seen. They also wanted a photo of me next to the car with something datable on it.

That's why I pay $100 a year to cover the car.
 
I have full coverage, but I had to take CT state minimum liability limits. Also, my coverage is Fault, so it works out weird if I get in an accident.

The company is Grundy, and Grundy is about insuring show cars only. Cars that aren't driven (I signed a statement that I don't drive the car as a daily car, to do ANY errands or as a backup car for any reason). To date, I've honored this statement.

It's basically insurance that's made for old, rich people to get to shows. they have a minimum age, they can turn you down if they don't like your car, and they can turn you down because "you seem kinda funny".
 
so you have it registered and insured as an antique right?
now what happens if a tree goes through your garage, does that fall on your home owners policy? or your car insurance?

and whats the listed value with the insurance company? $100 doesn't seem like its providing much coverage value
 
On the backside, that insurance company reports nothing but good news to it's shareholders. Think of the annual report:

"Our clients range in age between 45 and 75 and make 200,000 or more annually. We have a less than 1% claim rate against rateholders and are the only insurance company in the world with 0 fraudulent reports. Gentlemen, lets go to Outback!"
 
My reg is Connecticut classic. The plates are "Early American" and have a small icon of a Ford model A. You can get "Early American" for imports too. I am also completely emissions exempt, tax exempt and don't have to carry any stickers or identifiers outside of the single licence plate. (No reg stickers)
 
I have all mods reported to ins. I pay more cause of it, but I've already had to go through the experience of having my stuff jacked twice, and each time just my stereo equipment was valued over $6000
 
I find that kind of thing funny. What can you POSSIBLY assemble for $6000 these days ?
 
I don't think they'd be too happy to know that I did 3 catlytic converter deletes and another emissions related delete on my tumbler generator valves that are on my intake manifold.
 
well i have everything on the xb, crx, and my wifes accord listed with the insurance and i pay1200 a year full coverage for all three.
 
"Tumbler Generator Valves" I would have laughed at that too, a few months ago, before I was able to identify the oddly shaped and plumbed "Air to Air Thermal Reactor" on my Cosworth.


It prevents backfiring under high RPM downshifting.

I can't speak for your car, but I know how they work on the WRX.

They act as a choke on cold start emissions, after that they do nothing.

I need to be tuned to create more spark on startup because right now the car is real rough until it warms up.
 
The cosworth's reactor is installed on the side of the head (Lower head, it's in two seperate slices (Valve case and Cam Carrier). It takes not just flow, but pressure from the Exhaust cycle and sucks in fresh air (From the aircleaner) to take up the slack when the vacuum across the exhaust valves starts to cause backfire / sputtering.

I just think the name is cool.

Something I noticed when I was a WRX Owner. The engine is a modern piece of artwork. Toleranced and touched-up to the point of changing molecular disposition within materials for the engine. Everything about the motor is significant, including it's earth orientation during manufacturing.

And after all of that attention is paid to it, and it's had such careful and precise machine work performed,

It's the same goddam maintainance that 1960s Italian cars required. I'm surprised that the manual doesn't call for "decoquing the valves every 300 hours of use, or 2000 miles"

Now while I won't be paying nearly as much cause I work for my boy that has his own car audio business so we'll get everything discounted straight from the manufacturers.
 
i report nothing.

usually, its cheaper to replace it on your own that to take the hike in insurance over time. so assuming your shit doesn't get stolen for say 3 years, that extra 100/month paid for it already.

bank it, invest it, make money on it. don't give it away.

Jeez, you'd pay that much for MTX? I bet I can put together something better for cheaper and will knock harder. Eclipse, JL Audio, PPI, and Mobile Authority FTMFW!!! :D
