ok...so i have to write a 10 page paper on this topic and i have no idea where to start...any help would be appreciated...if i could just get pointed in the right direction...ill get on a roll and wipe the 10 pages out fast...but if i have no starting point...im drawing blanks...ughhh...thanks in advance

Consider the following scenario:

You are the President of HERVCO Industries, a multinational corporation having its headquarters in Bethpage, NY. Your company has developed and patented a new type of catheter which is capable of saving approximately one to two thousand lives a year, most of them children suffering from congenital heart defects. Its sales would also greatly increase your lagging profits.

Your research tells you that manufacturing the catheter product will create approximately 1,000 new jobs, most of them requiring no technical knowledge. However, the manufacturing process used to make the product is dangerous and controversial. First, the plastic making up the catheter is highly explosive and in fact, ten years earlier a plant owned by a rival company exploded in China killing over 200 workers and polluting a local river. Second, to make the plastic, it is necessary to create ozone gas. Ozone gas has been accused by some of causing global warming. Other scientists question the existence of such warming. You also know that manufacturers of similar products have faced media scrutiny and public protests.

HERVCO has manufacturing plants in Macon, Georgia; Tijuana, Mexico and Tan Duc City, Vietnam. Tijuana lies just across the U.S. border from San Diego. Tan Duc is a very poor industrial city of approximately 100,000 people located in a remote area of the country. You are familiar with Macon and its need to attract jobs to a high unemployment area.

What are you and HERVCO to do? Be sure to set forth and discuss the numerous ethic and moral issues that you and Hervco face in the above scenario, and the actions you take to get to your conclusion. Be sure to use the terms, theories and other information discussed in the text, the readings, and other sources. You may use the internet to research facts to support your arguments as well.

I banged a chick from Bethpage

lol

anyway...

I don't see how a piss bag will help children any more than a current piss bag....

There is no right or wrong answer here.... it's an opinion paper, and how you back it up is what you will be graded on.

create a subsidiary company and manufacture the product in the US under that companies name to limit brand name liability if something were to happen at the factory

the easiest way to get 10 pages out of this would be to discuss each option and why you support it or don't support it

is there more to the scenerio you aren't supplying?
10 pages on that little paragraph of background info is some bullshit
courier new font FTW

I am not sure, I could probably get ten pages on that. I also concur that tweaking the font by adding .1-.2 size in both font and leading would get you to ten pages quicker. Most professors would not be able to tell if you hand it in on paper. If you need to turn it in on disk your sol.

post 500 ftw - took me long enough.......

I would discuss the total estimated amount of saved lives over a 10yr period vs the number of potential injuried persons during manufacturing ove the same time span. so for example you're able to save 100 lives for every life lost if there is a manufacturing problem, the manufacturing method of the plastic is bound to improve and casualties should decrease, it seems the benifits outway the losses as far as lives are concerend. environmental impacts are an entire new can of worms.

2000 lives saved a yr *10 years =20,000
200 lives lost over a ten year period from one manufactuing incident : 20,000/200= 100:1 ratio

As far as font is concerned I remember this from a digg post from a while back
» The Secret Lives of Fonts » fadtastic - a multi-author web design trends journal it's a good read.
and supports that font style "Georgia" makes for a better grade

thanks for the input...you have a good idea there...and hopefully that will get me something to get going on!

OH OH OH ME ME ME

First off, "Catheter" will open faulty heart valves. It's not just for your penis. It's a Heart catheter, or Shunt.

Secondly - This is going to knock your fuckin socks off. Ready ?

Sell Macon. Sell out and subdivide. Offer people a package to join you in New York or setup a severance package that includes comp and insurance. (You never mentioned the size of your Macon facility) Lease out the floor space to local businesses and smaller businesses. Replace your manufacturing revenue with real and light industrial lease revenue. Most of your employees will get a job back in the same building.

Then sell the Tan-Duk facility to a blue chipper, like Google, Dell, or Lenovo. Check out some of the big players looking to get into Vietnam right now - AT&T, Microsoft and Motorola just to name a few.

Now open a facility in Toronto or Vancouver to make the plastics. Buy up all the Kyoto credits you can get your hands on and lay under a warm blanket of protection from anyone telling you can / can't do shit, or will / won't / may destroy the environment.

Ethics ? Here is what this has done for me:

I've controlled business size to confluence with an area's employment state. Like metal shops leaving Altoona, my company leaving will ruin an area. Instead, I'll adapt my offerings to the size of the area. I'll break up the goods of my single company to many smaller, better and more flexible companies. My profits come once a month in the form of hard, cold cash. The rest isn't my problem.

Tan Duk will continue to be a miserable third world shit hole. I won't be responsible, but I'll take it's profit engine and pour the goods into an area that's more a) savable, and b) affects me slightly more.

I moved to Canada to get around stiff US penalties and instability for manufacturing. Then when the government pulls the plug on my product, US labor isn't affected. I wear a Canadian flag on my jacket, and call people "Gubnuh" just to piss them off about how ignorant I am.

then I move the Legal department to Mexico and spend more time in my Rocky Mountain ranch, riding horses and building hotrods.

No problem. I don't work on this scale, but my uncle does (http://www.world-foundation.com/). The problem with your Ethics class, as this exercise sits, is that it's Ethics as an American. Not Ethics as a Human.

Expand your consciousness.

My uncle runs shops and businesses in Vietnam, Indo-china (Thailand, Srilanka, etc) and India. The Martha Stewart / Kathy-Lee ideals that most Americans have implanted in their minds are only a small percent of what's really out there.

If you want to talk more about this, I can offer educated advice - Contrary to what about 20% of Hondaswap says :)

Also, if you're in the mood for a ride, the World Foundation is in Florida.

bump for anymore input ;) ...got some good ideas goin so far...yall are awesome!

Someone else took one of my posts to their professor after the assignment was due (So as not to tip the scales) and got the Professor opinion.

Do that with this one - because I'm curious as to what they are teaching in Ethics these days.

Are you a salesman?

That was a nice value analysis you supplied.

3 1/2 pages down...6 1/2 to go...lol...even though it does say limited to 10 pages...so i may stop at 7 or somethin

Agreed with celerity.

I could write 30-50 pages on why outsourcing such jobs is good for us and them. Economics FTW.

Actually I work as a Mech/Electrical engineer, but I do work closely with our sales team. So maybe I should move into sales??

I was just wondering because its a sales technique used to establish a value of a product or service.
