Project EH23
Hi , I'm sorry if i'm in the wrong place , i'm new and really confused. I have just got a 93 Honda del sol si with i guess a d16z6 vtec engine ( not really sure now that some person are saying that the 93 Sol SI didn't come with it - still the stock engne in the car ), so i got that del sol and 2 days ago i got smoke in the down side of the engine bay. Someone told me that since i usually have 2 to 3 drop of oil on the ground where i usually park that might be the cause (oil dropping on hot exhaust ). The problem is that any time i get in that car i'm scare that something bad will happened or it might not be safe to drive it. Any idea? . Please help. What should i do or look for. I hope i can post some pics. I love my car but due to that problem i'm not really enjoying it. Thank you.

check the head by the exhaust mani...you could have a bad gasket that's leakin some oil onto the manifold and burnin up...btw...sweet del sol man...like the interior. very clean.

yeah they kinda have a distinct smell to each of them.

hi, thanks again for all your help i really apreciate it. I took a look at the exhaust mani and there is nothing like oil around it. Actually what i've seen is oil all other the top of what look like the transmission from the top of the engine right after the cylinder head. It doesn't seems to come from the head or its gasket . I did check around the head gasket. The oil starts after it but is not connected to it. So i though that pictures might help. Here there are. Hope it will help. And again , thank you very much for your help and time. Earlier i 've talk about plastic smell that what i though it was. Also i think you should know that this does happened once about every 20 miles or sooner when i'm in rush to get to work.

The arrows show where the oil starts.

you're joking right??

no melted wiring/wire loom in the engine bay. The oil pan is covered by oil. Well , i might look rudiculous for not know the smell of burning oil, but do you think that is something that make the car unsafe to drive? Please help!

Thank you so much. Can i fix it myself and what should i do? Also is this engine a vtec (car is 93 del sol si with stock engine)? Thanks again.

yes... i was. really dude it looks like an elephant took a piss in your car..

but yes you can fix it. you have the d16z6 by the way(for future reference) go to the local parts store and ask them for a valve cover gasket(they are a rubber gasket) it shouldn't cost much more than 20 bucks. take the plug wires out but label them somehow(like wire 1 to cylinder1 and so on..)there should be 4 or 5 bolts holding it down. take them out and pull the vc off...the gasket will be stuck in the valve cover.pull the old one out, put the new one in. simple as that. bolt it back down and put the wires back in and you will be good to go.

I know the interior color is really bad. I got it like that(one of the reason why the car was cheap). I've posted the pic to know what people will think about it. Now it definitely has to be changed. Concerning my smoke problem i'll change the vc gasket and let you know. Thank you very much for all your help. Btw the link is amazing. That will help a lot of poeple like me who knows nothing about engine . I hope it can be posted for everyone to see it. Thanks again.

I have changed the valve cover gasket and it still smelling . Someone suggested that i should change the oil pressure sender so i'll go ahead change it and let you know. Thanks for the help. I really appreciate what you doing for me.

you're gonna have a little smell for a while...you know, till the old shit burns off...lemmie guess...one of the people that told to change the sending unit are the same people who told you you didn't have the d16 right? the ones that know jack shit about hondas? i think so... give it a while to burn off and then go waste your money on the other stuff if it doesn't do the trick.
