I went to best buy today because i had an hour to burn before work. Looking around i decided to buy an HDDVD player for my xbox 360. Looking at the case that enclosed them i saw a 60 GB ps3. So i bought it and thought if i didnt want it i could return it later. So as i am in my car driving to work, i called my mom to see if she would use my xbox 360 at here house for my sister. I told her the story and she said i was selfish. She also told me one of my life long friends mother was searching for one for her 13 yr old daughter.

So i call her up, she is basically telling me she will buy it tomorrow, and basically started crying how happy she was, that she finally found a PS3 that was under 1000 dollars. Did i do the right thing in giving her the ps3 at retail cost or was i a big fat dummy for not selling it on craigslist for a 200 dollar profit.

It's the holiday season, u made a lil girl happy, u did the right thing

Depends, if the girls a spoiled brat, she doesn't deserve it and you are contributing to her demise.
Or you could just soak up the self pride and demand good karma from the wheel in the sky.

Actually i had one of the sadest things from the holiday happen to me a few days ago. On my balcony we have wooden boards instead on concreate. And a peice of paper fell through. I read the paper and it the the back of a cereal box. On the back the small child that live above me wrote a note. It said " Dear Santa, I know i have been a good girl, last year i got markers for christmas, and this year i need some drawing paper for them. Could you please help? " I felt so bad. I went out and bought a reem of paper and it is wrapped under my tree till christmas eve, I dont know how she can afford to live in my complex when rent is 850 for a one bedroom apt. But hopefully ill help her out also.

*edit- I can say she is not "spoiled" but she does have alot of nice things. Well her family does. She has a big house, but my moms says they can barely afford the mortgage. It is 4200 a month, so it is nice but her Dad says this is all she is getting for christmas. But either way i feel i am not being selfish and i am making a kids christmas a happy one.

That actually is really cool. In college i was in a service frat and we actually were the ones to hand out the toys for tots. You may not get to actually see the reaction of the girl opening the paper but I promise you that it will be the best gift that she receives because it is what she was hoping for and because it is from "Santa". Not her mom but a real "Santa". Honestly if you could swing it I would highly recommend just spending a few dollars every now and then at a big box store and getting her some art supplies. Even if she (of her mom) never finds out who is doing it - it will be a great feeling to know that you are giving someone a shot at happiness.

Yea, christmas rocks. And my commission check and christmas bonus will cover 100, 15 dollar art kits ;) But i hope i get what i want. Not to be gay, but i dont want parents to get divorced. They are seperating after the new year and i just hope they stick through it for my 14 yr old sister.

lol celerity always the smart ass.... or just telling the truth....

anyway, wow that sucks about that little girl and the balcony. i wouldve bought a stack of coloring books or something too. but maybe they have low-income housing? where the government pays some of the rent and they pay whatever depending on their income.

anyway, about that 4200 mortgage family.. wow.. why not sell it and get something more affordable? or is 4200 the cheapest in the area? serious question, not a wise cracked one..

oh yeah and i guess you get kudos for "giving" your ps3 to them.. haha.

I don't see how buying one for yourself and then offering your old but still top of the line system to your sister is selfish at all. Does your mom expect you to give everything away or call you selfish otherwise? You didn't buy the PS3 knowing that a friend's mother was searching for one, and even if you did- you're not obligated to give it to her.

Yes, you're a nice guy, but something still smells fishy/selfish on the other side of the deal.

Like the great Spike Lee once said. Do the right thing.

and you did.

I'm with Calesta - Why in hell is your own mother calling you selfish? So you found one and she didn't. What's so selfish about that?

It sounds to me like this family is living beyond their means.

That's exactly how I took it. People can wander into most stores here and pick up a PS3 now, I just don't think that woman could afford it either way. Your mom sounds like she wasn't a pleasure to be around growing up if you buy something that you can afford and are selfish for it.
