Just learned my great aunts house just burnt down to the foundation.

So many great memories in that house too. Good thing was she was here in town when it happened so she's alright. But that was a fairly new house too.

That sucks man. Thankfully no one was harmed. Any idea how it happened?

:werd: what's the scoop?
Please tell me she had home owners insurance? oh and if she didn't, just hope that it was a contractors fault/mistake... brand new, bigger house FTMFW!!!

I dunno how it happened just yet.

I'm sure she had homeowners ins., it's illegal to not have it in Indiana. (probably the same throughout the country?)

It apparently started in the garage. It roasted the garage, the kitchen, the bathroom by the kitchen, half the upstairs and pretty much the entire basement. They're looking at a total loss.

Both her cats were lost, but the dog survived after he got free from being chained up in the garage. (talk about one lucky fuckin dog)

My great aunt is going to be staying with my aunt (dads sister) for the time being.

They're not sure exactly how it started, but because it started in the garage, the fire marshall has to be there to investigate and he won't be there until Monday morning.

edit: by 'fairly new' I mean the house is only about 20 years old.

edit 2: by 'is' I mean... was.

Well, according to her neighbor who kinda looks over her... she shoulda been getting looked after for the past year. I'd imagine she's took it kinda hard, but we'll see.

Saw the pictures this morning.

There is no more garage left. Her pickup was in the garage when the beam fell on the roof, then burned up.

It's pretty much a complete lost, I'll see if I can get my dad to email them to me so I can post them up.

:(

From the gravel driveway looking toward the house. The Garage was on the left side of the house itself, attached:

Looking long ways at the house; the shadow is the barn. The angled piece of timber standing at an angle in the corner, right behind that was her bedroom. The corner was where the 1/2 bath was.

Direct picture; the doorway on the left side is the entrance to the kitchen from the garage that used to be there;

and finally, my dad standing OUTSIDE, behind the dining room looking east towards the family room and front door. The Garage/kitchen are to the right of this picture.

My dad said she'd had just gone to get a few containers of gasoline about a week prior to this happening and had them in the garage, and was gonna move them Saturday to the barn.

The suspected cause is a heating lamp that she turns on for the dog. She keeps him in the garage when she leaves the house.

Officially though, we still don't know the cause. It burned pretty hot though, if you notice the trucks roof is caved in. One of the support beams fell on it, then burned down into nothingness.

Noah would buy it.

Hey, can I have that roll-top ?
