Hey guys! This will be my first engine swap.

Right now I have a 98 Civic DX. I'm wanting to swap in a B18B engine/tranny.

I found (what I think is) a good deal online. It's a b18b complete change over for $ 2,200. It comes with:
- Motor
- Hydraulic Tranny (Y80, S80)
- ECU (P75)
- Axles
- Shift Linkage
- Stock Motor Mounts
- Alternator
- Starter
- Clutch
- Flywheel
- Intake Manifold
- Exhaust Manifold
- Fuel Rail
- Injectors
- Distributor
- Engine Harness
- Comes With All Sensors Needed

Now, what I'm planning on doing is leaving the D-series in the car for a while while I build up the B-series. I want to keep it N/A because this will be my DD for a while. But this is an idea of what I want to do to the B-series. The normal Intake, Header, Exhaust, Cams. Then I would like to get new valves, springs, have it sleeved, ported/polished, bored out.

Should I go w/ a different engine like a B16?

Here is my 1st question. How does that set-up sound? What else would you suggest and about how much HP would it be making?

2nd question: Will I need to buy anything else with the engine that isn't included in the list that it comes with?

3rd question: Will I need to upgrade anything? I'm sure I should upgrade the clutch, but anything else such as injectors, fuel rail, fuel pump, mounts ect?

4th question: Should I get it tuned after it is installed?

I will be building the engine myself, but I will NOT be installing it sence this is my only car right now and I can't be without a car for long. I figured a shop could get this done pretty quick.

I apprciate the help guys..and Sorry for the long post.

well if your gona stick with a b series save just a couple hundred more and get a gsr b18c1.it will be worth the extra money

I can't fine a complete change over for a b18c1 from hmotorsonline.com right now :-/

For the b18c it's over $4,000.

go to the stuff for sale section someone on here has one for sale and they have them for 2700

and the whole change over is 3200, but yah you will need a si rear mount and a si side mount i think, and yes i would go get it tuned

Hm. I couldn't find a c1 on the site...Just the long block. So an Si rear and side? ok, cool. How about as far as my plans building it up...Does it sound ok? Would you add or take away anything else?

hey just a little advice...
1.so first that engine stock will be pushin you about 140 hp & about 127 which is almost as much as a gsr. and that is being a us engine but a jdm will push about 10 more horsepower and almost the same torque.

2. that deal if the engine is either new or almost is a good deal. Its the whole package everything included but the only thing youll need is special motor mounts to fit that engine to your car reason being is that that engine origanilly is for the integra ... so hopefully u get wat im sayin

3.if your serious about buyin that engine find out exactly wat year range that engine is from because if that engine year range matches ur car year the same wiring harness from your car will be able to be used.....but if its not im not exactly sure but youll either have to change the wiring harness or buy a wiring harness adapter so get more info about that....

4.aiight first everything that comes from that engine is stock so it will run like new if installed correctly but it depends wat u want from that engine do you want to race this engine or do u just want to engine swap it. but if ur lookin to make it a real racer. before u put it in ur car. I would port and polish the heads performance valves, valve springs cams, camshaft, etc. and after drop it in and upgrade intake manifold headers catback system cold air intake etc. and to top it of turbo or nitous or both... so that all depends wat u want to do this engine ...but for sure i would port and polish the heads.

5. And definetly make sure do the tune up before u turn it on... all the fluids oh and make sure u have the spark plugs and the cables (go for ngk spark pugs). etc. thats wat i recommend you but also money could be the money which is currently happenin with me but yea hopefully this info is usefull to you and if u need anything else just message me...i curently have an 88 crx wit a complete b16 second generation wit sum upgrades down to it i still havent dropped the engine just waitin to get it back from the shop just buildin the heads currently....

Another quick question.

About how long does it take a shop to pull the tranny/motor and drop a new tranny/motor in? And about how much?

I did a b series swap in an ek and it is very easy. I suggest you do it yourself because you will gain a far better understanding of your car and how everything works. Also, garages rip you off;). Also i wouldn't worry about building the motor. Just put it in stock unless you are looking to upgrade right away. Clutch and flywheel are a good idea but if you are going with an ls motor i would start looking for a b16 head for ls vtec. I noticed that you didn't mention anything about mounts either, you will need a b16 SI rear motor mount at the very least. By least i am going on the assumption that your swap will have mounts. I know i am leaving alot of stuff out so just ask if you need more info.

So earlier today im thinking about a GSR swap in the EK hatch that will soon be in my possession *crosses fingers*, and lo and behold theres a thread for it right here.

God bless all of you, makes me even more glad to be getting my first honda soon :D

Rest assured, I'll be bothering you all with questions once i find a good GSR donor and i apologize in advance for it.

I would but I don't have the time to. This is my DD.

I did ask what else was needed. Someone mentioned the SI mounts.

You have to have the si rear mount and drivers side. The upper tranny mount you can use but you have to cut it to clear the starter and the two lower front mounts can be come from any 94-00 integra.

ok cool! Thanks

I did my first swap in a day, thats why i said you should consider doing it yourself. To have a shop do it will probably take a week and cost at least 1000 if you go to the right place and know the right people.

:shrug2:

The guys that do my engine work would do it in 4 hours or less. It's an easy swap.

by shop i think he meant local mechanic. Ive only taken more than a weekend to do one engine swap once and that was because we found out later that we got the wrong mount kit (it happends). Got the right one over nighted to us and we had it done the next weekend.

not a bad time frame considering its usually 3 people doing a swap, and we go through 2 24 packs of Coors Original. even more sad is that im the most knowledgable person around (even during b-series swaps)

If we rushed, we could probably pull off a swap in 6 hours, but wed definitely be sober and definitely be cussing through the whole damn thing.

haha! thanks man!

I guess I'll give it a go myself. I will probably only have 2..MAYBE 3 people working on it. I guess it will be a good idea to grab a Helms/Chilton (which ever is best) manual wouldn't it?

Does anyone know of any good write-ups that show how to pull a DX (or honda engine out) and swap one in? This is my 1st swap ever.
